I can see that cheating bastard Bruno Fernandes trying this in the near future. VAR will look at it and tell the ref to give them a penalty and send the opponent off. It won't matter where on the pitch the incident takes place. Hell, it probably won't even matter even if it happens after the full time whistle.

Shocking dive by Soton player against Leeds. Ref gives a penalty, but changes it after looking at the sideline monitor.

 

Good use of VAR, but clearly should’ve given the yellow for the dive.

There was a similar thing in rugby a few years back. Harlequins faked a blood injury substitution with capsules to get a better goal kicker on, they were called out on it, and their physio cut the guy's lip in the changing rooms to make it look real. Lots of people ended up banned as it was apparently a common practice and the physio was initially struck off but later reinstated.
