Depeche Mode, easily.

I like The Verve, love Richard Ashcroft's voice (though not as good as Dave Gahan's baritone), but has their blatant ripoff of / tribute to Massive Attack's Unfinished Sympathy ever been acknowledged?

They have to pay the Stones for nicking an Andrew Loog Oldham cover of Last Time on Bitter Sweet Symphony.

Two of the best front men in these early R2 ties, Freddie and Dave Gahan.  Never saw Queen live but Freddie's legend is well documented, Dave's not so much.  I have seen some very notable, acclaimed bands and artists live in my time as I'm sure we all have, but none of compare to the experience of Depeche Mode live.

What song ripped off Unfinished Sympathy?

Well I don't know about ripped off that was only a possibility but Bitter Sweet Symphony of course, less the song more the video.  Put it all together, the title, the strings, the video -  truly I don't know their stance on it, it may well be an acknowleged tribute or homage I just haven't been able to find anything definitive on it but I have not looked extensively to be fair.
