Toure: Van Dijk has a weakness in one on one defending

Recommended Posts

Kolo Toure believes he has identified the weakness in the game of Virgil Van Dijk.

The big Dutch defender has been without peer over the past few years, making life a nightmare for those who comes up against him while making those around him better players.

Managers all over Europe would have had many sleepless nights as they try to find ways to bring him undone but have not had much luck in doing so.

However the former Arsenal, Man City and Reds defender believes he knows what can challenge him the most.

Toure told Stats Perform News (via the Mirror:)

"He's an unbelievable player.

"He's a top player. He's got speed, height, he can jump. He's got technique. He can switch the game with his long passes. He has got everything.

“I haven't seen many players challenge him one on one.

"In my opinion, that's his weakness!

"He's really tall and if you really attack him with the ball, he can struggle, but he's so clever.

"He's so clever because he drops well, but if you are really aggressive in attack in a one-on-one, I think you can get something from him.

Toure who is presently an assistant coach at Leicester believes he also has got quality players who are strong in support.

"He's a really clever player.

"He's got Joe Gomez on his side, good players on his side to help him as well. There are good players around him and I think that makes his game easy, but I think he's got so many qualities."

As champions, you expect to read more and more analysis of the Liverpool players and the tactics needed in how is the best way to dethrone us.

But there is no doubt that Jurgen and rest of the squad will be more than prepared for anything that comes their way.

Maybe spend a bit more time working Leicester form since the restart and they might not have blown a top 4 spot

Okay. I'm going to block this cunt on Twitter for this. I might even neg every member here with Toure in their name.

This is all because Richarlison ran past him. He didn't have the ball like but its an obvious weakness! I hope VVD continues to be this weak for the rest of his career.

Don't forget that time Pepe beat him in a race to the touchline before losing the ball.

Hey @Elite get a sense of humour, bro.

I won't have anyone slandering our good leader.

Well that's how it works in North Korea.

I support humour that doesn’t always translate in the written form FC, not North Korea FC

I negged you regardless of any intention. It could have started a revolt and we all know that everyone that's received a fridge magnet is no longer with us. It's the Usher equivalent of an horse's head.

Repped for placing 'an' in front of a word beginning with 'h'.

I never knew that. Thanks for the lesson.

I'm not being sarcastic either.

"I haven’t seen many players challenge him one on one."

And of the few you have seen, how many have bested him?

I like the way that, in looking for a potential flaw in his game, you have to rule out all the stuff you've seen him do week in, week out.

    • I’m not (anything close to) an athlete by any means, but I’m quite active and while some symptoms have improved since I tested positive a few weeks ago, I can’t go back to work because my heart rate spikes if I so much as think about physical activity. Literally a minute ago, sitting up on the sofa sent it to 103BPM. Now, tons of people have had this thing worse than me, over 2m have died, I’m still relatively fortunate at this point, but it’s a really disconcerting thing.   With that in mind, I have to think that if any of these players were showing obvious physical after effects that the medical staff would have pulled them out ala the Newcastle players who needed a couple of months to get over it.
    • Possibly because it was completely overlooked, in fact Carragher said it was a good challenge. About half way through the second half, the ball went across from the right with Mane running onto it from the edge of the box.  The Burnley player slid across from the left and got nowhere near the ball and took Mane out.  Mane got a shot off (skied it) but potentially impeded by the incoming challenge which was coming a mile off.
    • 30 league games played since.    15 wins.    6 losses.    9 draws.
    • The Mane one wasn't identical but it was similar enough to warrant another look and an explanation.
    • Absolutely Doc.   We feel like City twelve months ago. It's hard to take the last five games because we were arguably favourites after the Palace game with a nice run of games to build a gap with our rivals. Now we're a 25/1 longshot and being honest I think it's borderline if we make top 4 because the two Mancs, Spurs and Leicester look better right now and we have a shit run of fixtures coming up so by the time we find form we could be royally up shit creek.   Prior to Jurgen coming, I used to feel the new season was generally not something to get too excited about. It was hope rather than anything else.   Next season I genuinely feel excited about. Virgil and Gomez back. Crowds back. 2 or 3 new players and the best manager in the world identifying them. Players with a point to prove. Possibly Elliot breaking through. This is not like the early 90s when we were knocked from the saddle and were in freefall. We will be back next season.
