British Band Tournament ... (Like the Sitcoms)

The list should certainly reflect the major British innovations: folk rock (of local varieties), power pop, 2 Tone, post-punk, even anarcho-punk and its direct antithesis prog rock...?

Personally I don't like white blues stuff and think a number of acts in this tradition are massively overrated...

I think pub rock belongs on the list of innovations as well, on reflection...

1 band is getting added to the list. None are being removed. Hurry up and decide.

My vote is Buzzcocks.

Everyone add 1 vote and by 10pm whoever has the most will be added.

Are Travis seriously on the list? * Not that they're the only shit band on there, mind...

Travis will win. You can’t get any whiter or toxic male than the Scottish and that appears to be Stig’s parameters for the list. Also they whine about it raining which makes them extra British

Buzzcocks 1 vote

Squeeze 1 vote

Fairport Convention get my vote, then. For genre balance. And the fact that they were infinitely better than pretty much every other band on the list. Richard Thompson, Sandy Denny, etc. Fucking hell...

Levellers, Buzzcocks, Specials are all essential for me. Specials if really only one.

I'm not especially into the Levellers. Love the Buzzcocks. But the Specials are one of the most important bands of all time, I reckon...

I get it, but been great at doing their thing for like 30 years after coming out of the anarcho scene into the genuine mainstream (without resorting to gimmicks like Chumbawumba).  Been running a great old-style festival since 2003 to great success.

Another vote for Squeeze as I said earlier. Chris Difford is one of the best songwriters we’ve had.

Boss band.

Actually I'm changing my vote to Squeeze. Also TJ Hooker is a massive fan too.

Squeeze 3

Specials 2

Fairport Convention

Cocteau Twins
