Given as he plays deeper, maybe Barca / Spain always having to go through Xavi is a better comparison.

It's not really the same thing. Thiago splits the CB's and progresses the ball forward. He keeps it moving. It will improve our buildup tenfold. With Coutinho it used to be that the ball would reach him and immediately you knew he would try to dribble or shoot.

We will play Fabinho and Thiago together at times. I can only see Fabinho being used as an emergency centre half if 2 of the other 3 are injured.

I can see Salah getting between 50-60 goals and assists combined this season with Thiago in the team.

Just a shame Thiago will not be ready for the Chelsea match.

Shouldn’t be forgotten that Barca won a European Cup with Yaya Toure and subsequently Mascherano at centre half. Not saying it is the wisest solution but there is precedent for getting away with it with a dominant midfield in front. Even United were very successful with Carrick at centre half. 
 

Personally I think Gomez/VVD is locked; Thiago will be the Bentley that comes out the garage for maybe half the games in the season when we need to slap any pretenders down and remind them of their rightful place. There will be plenty of games in various set ups to suit Fab/Hendo/Gini/Thiago/Keita.

Fabs is probably quicker than Matip - and certainly quicker than Fernandinho to make a more recent comparison. And he is pretty good in the air.

It would only work if he wanted to do it and Klopp committed to it - no filling in at the back.

Gomez helps us keep a very high line with his pace. Fab there will disturb the balance a bit. Am still hopeful we can sell whoever we need to to fund a CB and a backup attacker

Gomez's lack of discipline has been fucking the high line for a while I think. I just don't think he's been on it for some time.

He played well enough there against Bayern to be considered an option IMO.
