Not done a categories one for a while.

All must have made their debut on or after 1/1/1990

  • A Capped Scotland player
  • A Flamengo player
  • A Parma player
  • An Everton player
  • A Leicester player
  • An Atletico Madrid player
  • A Lyon player
  • A Capped Germany Player
  • A Capped Turkish player
  • A Newcastle player
  • A Pompey player

I won't start it until later in the week and a decent number for this would make it better/harder

7 in so far:

Stig

Alex

Elite

Ardja

Lifey

No2

Dynamite

When are you starting it? I might play but the Turkish capped player is putting me off. Sure we had a Turkish one in a previous draft and it’s very slim pickings.

Yeah. Maybe keep the Turkish theme for the category, but have it be a Besiktas, Galatasaray or Fenerbahce player instead of Turkish national player?

Yeah happy to change that rule.

@Sugar Ape Probably kick it off lunchtime on Thursday? Hoping for around 10/12 for this. Between 10 and 14 always guarantees a decent draft.

Can a pick have made their debut for a different club/country before 1990 to which you’re selecting them?

e.g. Player A made his debut for another club in 1988 but made his Portsmouth debut in 1992?

No. His professional debut for anyone has to have been 1990 or after

Fair enough.

Ruled out a couple of sly picks I was hoping for.

Don't worry., I'm sure Rapey or someone is trying to find the most obscure pointless bend in the rules just to be a cunt as we speak.

Is that not the point of these? Deciding between Shearer, Romario or Tuguy for first pick. If you leave the Turkish lad until last how much damage does he do? Willian was picked at left back in the draft just done, I don't think I'm stretching it to say Moreno would have gone down better.

There is no defined ‘point’ of these drafts, but personally I prefer some picks to be hard but not to the point where it’s not enjoyable because all the options are shite.

Assuming we’ll have ten players then there are already a lot of hard picks such as Scotland, Pompey and of course Everton. It wouldn’t surprise me if some of the people playing couldn’t even name ten Turkish players. Additionally I’m sure we’ve already had a draft that had a Turkish pick in it so running over old ground.

Obviously this is all subjective, and there is no right or wrong, however I’m definitely right.

@No2 If we were in a backs-against-the-walls job I'd rather have Willian than Moreno at full back. I'm being serious about that. One is a professional who typically raises his game in the big matches & is v tactically disciplined, the other was a lunatic bottler for whom no act was beyond the realms of possibilities.

RE: omission of Turkish international - to be honest I agree with that too. I personally find it hard differentiating Turkish players from each -- clearly that's not the most politically correct stance, but they all kind of blur into hardy fiery sorts who do a job in Turkey then typically get blitzed whenever they play outside the country. The Gala/Fen/Besiktas clause at least allows some interesting foreign names alongside any Turkish players you could have wanted

You make a fair point, I prefer the hard ones, a team with Messi or Maradona in them makes them incredibly hard to beat. The teams here have enough about them to form decent sides with only a couple of world beaters in there. The draw will be crucial unless ardja get a first pick and chooses Steven Naismith.
