Schuster is a magnificent shout. Quit international football at the age of 24; he could have been a German legend but had a huge row when he turned down a call-up to be home for the birth of his son. Absolutely no doubt in my mind he would have been a first choice for over a decade for the best national team in the world.  
He was brilliant at Barcelona - but when he left he was both brilliant enough for Real Madrid to want him and ballsy enough to go there. Once Real decided to shift him he stuck two fingers up and went to their city rivals.

It was mixed messages. He was messing with my head. I lost respect for him, to be honest. He used to phone me up and tell me I was a wonderful guy, and would I like to go and see Tinie Tempah live at the Arena with him - and then he'd not phone back and go with someone else. It was disappointing, to be honest.
