Never understood just why people have this fascination with fireworks. You might as well just set fire to a £20 note, cut out the middle man

Same here, Shep. Over here it gets ridiculous at New Years Eve with people trying to outdo each other on how many fireworks they buy. Why bother, just stand outside or look out of the window and watch it all for free. Pain in the arse for animal owners as well, especially because the young pricks set them off from 3 days before (when they go on sale, although it used to be a week before) and for a few weeks after.

I heard those fireworks last night. I live in Deysbrook and was told by a Cantril/Stockbridge/Farm/Village resident that it was part of a funeral ceremony.

Funerals used to be lots of black clothing, words of sympathy, suppressed grief, priests speed reading from an old book, wooden box toting, strains of 'My Way' or 'Simply The Best', a trip to a local social club, a few sarnies or chicken legs, a few huigs kisses and promises to 'keep in touch' and then off  to the pub for a session of quiet rememberance and respectful heavy drinking. Fireworks? Nah; fuck that, it's pikey behaviour.
