Being an absolute prick, yet again:

Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer has accused the Conservatives of producing a “Jeremy Corbyn style manifesto".

Referencing the former leader of his own party, Sir Keir said the Tories had drawn up a document that would "load everything into the wheelbarrow" without explaining how to pay for it.

Sir Keir served in Mr Corbyn's shadow cabinet but defended his criticism saying: "If you lose that badly, you don't look at the electorate... you look at your party and say 'You need to change'."

The Labour leader's comments came ahead of Rishi Sunak launching his manifesto at the Silverstone race track in Northamptonshire.

Mr Sunak said his manifesto showed that "our economy has truly turned a corner" and that his party's policies would ensure "more British success stories".

He said the measures were "fully funded and would result in lower borrowing in 2029-30".

“Do not forget that Keir Starmer is asking you to hand him a blank cheque when he hasn’t said what he’ll buy with it and how much it is going to cost you," he added.

Mr Sunak's pledges include a new Help to Buy scheme to support first time buyers to purchase a home and a 2p cut in employee National Insurance.

Asked if he would match the Conservatives' National Insurance tax cut, Sir Keir said the "money's not there".

He accused the Conservatives of using a promise to tackle tax avoidance to fund "at least four different propositions" adding: "That's why I say it's a Jeremy Corbyn-style manifesto."

Mr Corbyn's manifesto for the 2019 general election was a wide-ranging and ambitious proposal, including promises of free broadband for all and nationalisation of energy firms and the water industry.

Mr Corbyn has previously said Sir Keir should not "diss the past or diss his involvement in it".

As well as comparing Mr Sunak to Jeremy Corbyn, Sir Keir also accused the prime minister of pursuing a similar approach to his predecessor Liz Truss.

He warned that “unfunded” commitments could crash the economy and that “if you lose control of the economy it’s working people who pay the price.”

The Liberal Democrat deputy leader Daisy Cooper said the Conservative manifesto wasn't "worth the paper it's printed on".

"No one will believe anything they're promising today," she said.

Where is the broadband money, Rishi?

I think he’s just a prick:

Jeremy Corbyn has accused Sir Keir Starmer of "rewriting history" when the current party leader claimed he had known Labour would lose the 2019 general election.

Sir Keir was a leading member of Mr Corbyn's shadow cabinet in 2019, when Labour suffered one of its worst general-election defeats.

He has since distanced himself from Mr Corbyn's leadership and many of the policies the former leader put forward at that election.

Sir Keir has even accused the Conservatives of building a "Jeremy Corbyn-style manifesto" that will "load everything into the wheelbarrow" without explaining how to pay for it.

'Serious plan'

Asked by Sky News, on Wednesday, to explain why he had campaigned for Mr Corbyn's manifesto, Sir Keir said: "I was certain that we would lose the 2019 election.

"I did campaign for Labour - of course I did.

"I will openly say I campaigned for Labour

"I wanted good colleagues to be returned into the Labour Party."

Sir Keir has repeatedly stressed how he has changed the party since taking over from Mr Corbyn, in 2020.

Speaking at the launch of Labour's 2024 election manifesto, Sir Keir said he was now offering a "serious plan for the future of our country".

Addressing Sir Keir's claim he had known Labour would lose the 2019 general election, Mr Corbyn said: "Well, he never said that to me, at any time.

"And so I just think rewriting history is no help.

"It shows double standards, shall we say, that he now says he always thought that but he never said it at the time or anything about it.

"He was part of the campaign.

"He and I spoke together at events and I find it actually quite sad."

Mr Corbyn added his message to the Labour leader was to "own" his involvement with the 2019 campaign.

The former Labour leader is standing as an independent candidate in Islington North, after being expelled from the Labour Party.

The other candidates standing in the constituencyare:

  • Vikas Aggarwal. Liberal Democrats

  • Karen Harries, Conservative Party

  • Paul Josling. Independent

  • Sheridan Kates, Green Party

  • Praful Nargund, Labour Party

  • Martyn Nelson, Reform UK

Starmers either a bit slow (which he's not) a weirdo, or a disingenuous twat.

It was obvious they didn't laugh over his father's profession ffs. He's mentioned "toolmaker" everytime he speaks, that's what brought the response. Imo he's very devious.

He had no problems with having a bit of a giggle when that little girl said they couldn't afford heating in winter so she had to wear a onesie.

Can't stand this slimy, manipulative cunt at all and I'll take no pleasure at all from him becoming prime minister.

He'll do no more for the people of this country than the current shower of cunts. My big fear is him going so far right will push the Tories even further to the extremes and when they come back at the next election it'll be with Farage leading them to oppose an unpopular labour government.

He’s very duplicitous. I’d recommend the excellent “Left Out” for anybody who is interested. The book is about the war between the left and right of the Labour Party during Corbyns tenure and is imo very balanced. Starmer never seemed to have had any real problem with Jeremy Corbyn save for Brexit. Corbyn was even particularly keen to cede to Starmer on issues to keep him in his team. I’m not a fan of Corbyn but he’s spot on about Starmer who is out of order for ostracising him the way he has. I don’t trust him at all.

It may come as a huge surprise to you all that I’m not a fan of what Starmer has become, but what is this nonsense in The Telegraph. If she doesn’t want to be part of an election campaign, he’s perfectly entitled to protect her. It’s not like her and her dad are raiding the public purse for contracts for their companies, unlike certain other leaders.

Seen a few things from Peter Hitchens essentially saying Starmer is a radical trotskiest wolf in sheep's clothing who will destroy Britain. Here's hoping.

He's the most boring, soul crushing, joyless cunt. Absolutely zero personality and is a self appointed expert in everything that ever existed.
