Keir Starmer

Recommended Posts

There's some nonsense going around now that those he's looking to demote are refusing to leave their position as they believe Starmer doesn't have the political clout to get rid of them now after the disaster of the last few days.

These truly are the days of wine and roses.

They cant refuse to leave their positions , although I can imagine there will be loads of horse trading over subsequent offerings. If I was Lisa Nandy or Angela Rayner , unless I was offered a job that I really wanted I would be threatening to resign , as they could be leader by Xmas the way this wet wipe is going.

Nah, one will remain as Labour and it’ll be the socialist campaign group. John McDonald, Corbyn, Abbott, RLB et al. Then from there it’s sink or swim for both sets. It’ll be a huge set back for Left so politics but eventually one side would win and it could move on. I think the socialist Labour Party would be such an easy target - it would soon be polling in single figures and go the way of  Labour in Scotland. That said, if the - let’s say Democrats - find somebody good to lead them, offer genuine progressive politics without the hated, toxic legacy that Labour seem to have, they could be the new second party. If not, they can quickly die like Chukka and the guys then the Labour Party is United again. The short term winners are the Tories, but they’re winning anyway.

Sounds great. I mean, I think there's more chance of Change UK being reformed and romping home to a 97 style landslide, but still, I'd absolutely love to see it. Whoever retains the brand wins imo. Anyone going it alone is lobbying for the bailiffs/spending their days on the allotment in no time.

As the next election is years away none of this would be a huge problem if there was even the slightest chance that it wasn't going to happen every month or so.

Is it though ?  If I was Johnson I would be looking at repealing the fixed term act pronto.

I don’t see how they can refuse to move if he tells them goodbye. He can’t sack Rayner from Deputy Leader as that’s a position elected by members, but anyone else he can.

They can if they have enough numbers backing them up in solidarity, it's brinkmanship as you say. He can sack them, but then if they have enough backing it's a vote of no confidence.

This is seen as on him and they are, I'm interpreting, saying as much and they're not moving without a massive fuss, which I think, to a degree, is understandable.

What a fucking disaster.

Pretty sure it's in the Queens speech.

Both of them have done relatively well in my estimation ( and they aren't in my gang ) in an overall shitshow , and I think they can rightly feel miffed if they are being demoted to cover Starmer's backside. Furthermore , if it is for Wes Streeting no court in the land would convict them if they kicked Keir in the nuts.

I get Rayner being moved to something more prominent and forward facing where she can be herself, so the hysteria over her will, I think, be unfounded and she'll have a big role to play

Nandy though?

She's been one of the only positives of the whole thing.

If it is Mandelson and his ilk behind the scenes then we're truly fucked, he was yesterdays man years ago and brings nothing but baggage and from some members open hostility. An appalling human.

Isn't that pretty meaningless anyway?

They can put it through as a bill like they did in 2019 and it would get voted through easily.

I don't think the public really want another General Election any time soon though. Johnson doesn't need one either? Sure they would probably win another 30+ seats at least but what would be the point?

The next one is three years away, and that's about right.

Sam Coates at Sky saying the reshuffle is still on tonight. Press goes to print at 10.30pm so maybe they’re waiting to keep it off the front pages.

I’m pretty sure I can still get a few digs in n Twitter about his incompetence before this is official. There’s time, everyone to the bat cave. Then commence operation ‘pretend we knew what was going on and say it’s incompetent that he was so slow to act and should have gone deeper’.

I must be the only person in Britain who thinks Raynor is useless, I don't care if she's working class, from the north and is a woman if she was the architect of that campaign she deserves the boot.
