Anyone who crosses the floor should face a by election. No ifs or buts, go back to your electorate and ask the question. A lot of MPs wrongly think their constituents are voting for them not the party.

They are voting for the individual though. It's always been that way.

Technically they are but in most seats the constituents are voting for the national party. That’s why you get safe seats, it’s unlikely to be a series of charismatic individuals over the years who all happen to be in the same party. My experience of knocking on the doors for Mrs Willard is that national personalities predominate.

Behave, not true in the slightest, save for the rare exeception like that lib dem who always gets in in Manchester as he's got a good rep as a local MP. Virtually everyone ticks the badge on their balot paper.

If you asked the majority of people who they voted for, most of them wouldn't remember the name of the individual!

When you vote somebody in, it doesn't give them free reign to then jump over to whichever party they see fit!

A sitting MP shouldn't be allowed to change party without triggering a bi-election.

I always vote for Maria eagle but she's never responded to a single email. I'll vote for her again.

If the Mp believes that the constituents voted for them as a person then they wouldn’t fear a by election. The reality is they think they’re going to lose in the general and are jumping ship like rats.

"Technically true" is still true. Parties have enough power already. I will never agree with handing all that control to a few people in the whips office.

The main thing that boils my piss is the fact that we have never had an elected Prime Minister. There's a lot of people horny for PR at the moment, but I don't think it addresses the real problem, which is the blurring of the Executive and Legislative branches. Separate them, have a House of Commons elected on the current system and replace the House of Lords with a chamber elected by some form of PR. Job's a good'un.

I work with people who were surprised not to see the names Johnson and Corbyn on the ballot paper in 2019.

Wasn't there a thing a few years ago when one of the Tory defectors to UKIP did the honourable thing (yeah, I know) and stood for re-election, some of the locals told the media that they were going to vote for UKIP because their Conservative MP had done nothing for them?

I've just received this email.

He's gone way too far.

Dear Mark,

Warning: This email relates to the Labour Party Leader Keir Starmer's action today, writing in the rag and may cause distress to some members affected by the Hillsborough disaster

Please be advised that next meeting of the West Lancashire Constituency Labour Party (CLP) will be held THIS Thursday 7 October at 7.30pm to be held on Zoom.

Register in advance for this meeting:
https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUqcO2sqD0qHNfrM-vhX8eDX-q4eynk25_C

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

The meeting will be one-item agenda to consider a motion to North West Labour Regional Conference. The meeting qualifies under the rules due to the deadline for motions being Friday 8 October, and the subject of the motion only coming to the fore on this day.

Proposer: Gareth Dowling
Seconder: Chris Ryley
The motion reads:

This Regional Conference expresses its utter disappointment, frustration, upset and disgust at the actions of the Leader of the Labour Party Keir Starmer on Sunday 3 October, in writing the rag so-called newspaper.

The Labour Party has for decades been united with the people of West Lancashire, Merseyside and beyond in its opposition to the scum rag.

Previous Labour leaders have also shown this absolute contempt for the victims and survivors of the Hillsborough disaster, their families and the wider community by engaging with those responsible for bringing so much additional hurt and pain, and continued over decades.

This massive error of judgement directly reneged on Mr Starmer’s 2020 leadership vow to not engage with the publication. While the Labour Party is campaigning on Tory trust issues on social media, we have a clear trust issue presented to us with our very own Labour Party Leader.

We are the members who have stood by our party, often against our own personal wishes, but stayed to stay united while hundreds of thousands of our fellow members felt no choice but to cancel their membership – yet it is us very members who have been insulted so callously and recklessly.

As a previous Head of the Crown Prosecution Service, Mr Starmer cannot possibly claim in all honesty to not understand the hurt caused by this publication, and the continued and repeated hurt he has caused in our communities.

This Regional Conference therefore resolves that Mr Starmer must:

1.    Deliver a public apology to the people of West Lancashire, Merseyside and beyond for the absolute hurt, pain and heartache he has caused by taking this action

2.    This apology should be made in person here in the North West – putting himself to the people at St George’s Hall and try convince them he is actually someone of integrity, compassion and capable of leading this Labour Party

3.    Commit, in clear writing – and actually stick to – never, ever engaging with this rag ever again

in an attempt to be able to move forward as a united party.

We understand this is a highly distressing matter and that many members may wish to send their apologies.

Please also find attached a joint letter from the West Lancashire CLP Executive Committee alongisde the West Lancashire Labour Group (of Councillors) which has today been sent to Mr Starmer, copied to the General Secretary, our MP Rosie Cooper, and Liverpool Mayors Steve Rotheram and Joanne Anderson. This has been shared with local media and on social media.

We look forward to seeing you on Thursday.

In unity,
Gareth

Gareth Dowling,
Secretary,
