What are your favourite all time magazines?

I am looking into subscribing to www.readly.com which has a huge number of online magazines to read. When I looked at the list I saw names of magazines from years ago that to my surprise seem to be still being published now: Edge, Viz, Stuff, FoutFourTwo, even Time is still being published.

Got me thinking, what are your top 5/10 favourite magazines? FHM? Playboy? Q?

Same as most people my age bought FHM as a teen.

Others

Channel 4 Italian football magazine

World soccer

Ring Magazine before Golden Boy turned it into a promotional tool. Boxing monthly.

Being somewhat a sad bastard I still read Wargames illustrated and white dwarf.

And recently subscribed to this

I didn't realise there were boxing magazines, did they cover the fights themselves with photos and reviews?

Monthly I used to buy Empire, Total Film, World Soccer,Total Football, NME, Q and not a magazine but I’d buy the fanzine from WH Smith’s in Lime Street.

Occasionally I‘d buy FHM, Maxim and When Saturday comes.

Then I got the internet.

This is why I assumed most, if not all magazines had ceased being published but there must still be a market for them. Really surprised. Empire and Total Film were great back before the Internet. Possibly because films were much more of an event back then.

Yeah they covered up coming fights and fights over the past month. With the usual interviews with current and past fighters, stories etc. Then loads of pages of people selling fights on dvd

I can well imagine before the huge exposure the fights get now, magazines would have access to stuff that most places would have only dreamed of. Never would have thought of that as a magazine but sounds boss.

I used to buy Boxing News for years in the 80's , it was mainly UK Based reporting and was great for nerds like me. It used to have round by round descriptions of all fights even at the bottom of the bill in some backwater. It also did in depth interviews and previews of upcoming fights. When I bought it , it was similar in look and size to Private Eye.

The big dog in the market was ( and still is ? ) Ring Magazine , a glossy and US based offering that still covered the same sort of items that B N did but obviously the size of America meant it was not as in-depth.
