Report: Premier League clubs unite in a bid to stop Man City playing in Europe

Clubs from the upper echelon of the Premier League have launched a bid to stop Man City playing in the Champions League while the appeal over their two year ban is ongoing.

The Daily Mail reports that eight of the current top 10 placed clubs in the Premier League have submitted a joint application to the Court of Arbitration for Sport which will hear City’s appeal against their punishment from UEFA for breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

The only two teams not on the list are Sheffield United and naturally City themselves.

It is believed the group have written separately to the same law firm who have in turn sent them an application backed by all to the arbitration body.

If Man City request their punishment is “stayed” (in other words not served) while their appeal is ongoing, the other clubs will strongly reject that premise.

 

For their part, Man City have not requested that measure take place.

City have a firm belief that this is a calculated attack by some of the most powerful clubs in the country.

An unnamed source did little to reject that view by saying:

“For too long, City have been able to get away with breaching the rules at the expense of at least one other club that has been unable to get into the Champions League.

“The fear is that they will be able to delay any punishment and — should they win the appeal — get off scot-free, which would be outrageous."

There is a thought that with the current Covid-19 global outbreak sending football calendars into turmoil, the case over City’s two year ban will be delayed and they could well start the new season in the Champions League.

Hmmmmm, Im a bit disappointed we've written to CAS or whoever with a number of other PL clubs supporting city's ban.

 

Yes, we all know they should be banned but this, in my humble opinion, makes us look a little small time.

I think it is perfectly logical. Man City have been found guilty by the sports governing body, if the appeal isn't heard in time we think it's fairer to abide by the actual guilty verdict. If someone was due an appeal for murder we wouldn't think it unfair that they were locked up while the awaiting appeal.

 

The more interesting part of the story is it shows where the clubs are at when judgement day comes from the premier league. It's a given they will replicate any decision made at CAS, we now know the teams at the top will happily punish them to fuck, if the punishment is big enough to appeal to lower teams they will row in behind it. I don't think relegation or a points deduction that is basically equivalent to it is that far fetched.

As we've  already qualified for the CL next season I would say we're the only club who can't be accused of looking small time because we've nothing to gain from them being suspended.

Fuck em and it's about time the rest of the clubs got together to tell them to fuck off. We all need to remember that the premier league was created as a result of the top clubs breaking away so in cases like this it's no surprise they are sticking together when some cheating cunts come into the league and try to bully everyone including the governing bodies. 

 

After this I hope the premier league clubs get together and vote to kick them out the league.

Misses the point. The evidence will get them banged to rights, and rightly so not, clubs saying 'please, pretty please find them guilty.' What we've done makes us out to be a snitch at best and a grass at worst.

 

We are better than that.
