Unnecessary Waste. Cardboard Overkill.

Ordered some stuff from Screwfix and thought I’d get it delivered as my back is playing up, free delivery. A 2.5litre tin of gloss, a 1 litre tin of specialist stain paint, a roller set, a tube of silicon and 2x2 metre lengths of upvc edging, they have just been delivered.

24”x18”12” contained 1 tin of paint in a box, with the silicon and roller set. Box 2 the same size with a tin of boxed paint. The edging came in a 2 metre long tube. Delivered by a courier van. I normally just buy over the counter at Screwfix, the amount of cardboard was fucking ridiculous.

I always wondered about things like this, is it something to do with how they fit the boxes in the courier vehicle? Obviously it's much easier to stack boxes if they are a uniform size rather than all different sizes.

It could be mate, my daughter orders a lot from asos, she got a baseball cap delivered in a massive box a while back, it was so light I thought it was empty.

We often get 15kg bags of dog food from Amazon delivered inside a great big box, and with loads of paper packing. Not sure why, they're not exactly delicate, and it's a lot easier to lift the bag than try and get your arms around the box.

Exactly the paint was sliding in the box, not heavy but awkward.

I reckon it's much quicker to pack in a large box than sorting through and choosing the correct box, packing it in carefully, then getting sacked by Amazon for not hitting your unrealistic target numbers.

There’s so much cardboard packaging that fortnightly collections of the recycling bins aren’t enough for a family of five. I have to drive to the tip at least once a month to get rid of a load of it and there’s probably millions of others around the world doing the same. That’s again adding more to the carbon footprint.

Here's a prime example of the dreadful amount of wasteful packaging I see, as a courier. This one was so ridiculous, I took a pic of this just before I delivered it. The item being sent can clearly be made out in the lower right corner of the package, with a size comparison of my nearby foot at the bottom of the pic.

Same here, the packaging is pathetic being as it's a sealed bag. Ordered some special food (hypoallergenic) from a pet store chain and that just turned up with an address sticker on the actual bag, far better.
