I know a couple of Blackpool fans, their club has been to hell and back with the Oyston's as former owners. They hope happier times are returning to Bloomfield Road. Funnily enough, even in the 60's Blackpool had a good record against us. When they got promoted again in the 70's, it needed a late Stevie Heighway goal to get a 2-2 draw with them at Anfield.

Blackpool go through managers at an alarming rate even post Oyston. Personally I think it's too big a step for Critchley and would have been better starting with a National League side. Considering the talents we have in our U23s, results have been up and down the entire time he's been in charge. Best of luck to him though.

Mate of mine is  Blackpool fan. He's asking how good Critchley is. What's the view from those of you who watch the U23s regularly?

He's always tried to 'play football' - against Villa, he arguably tried to play a bit much with the players he had available. Presumably he gets the rest of the season without much pressure, since they can't make the playoffs, and Tranmere aren't catching them. It will be interesting to see how he goes about constructing a team over the summer; it's always a paradigm shift, having to attract players to a club, when you've never done it before.

Any chance this is a case of trying to have them playing with Klopps style at youth level? Which isn't always effective with the younger players but it's not so much about the results, it's about preparing them for the next step up.

I think I heard about Rafa implementing something similar, and with the new training ground it looks like it will be even easier to develop the youngsters in this way.
