Wasn't Zahawi one of those who claimed expenses for something completely ridiculous? I don't think he claimed for his duck house to be painted, but it was something silly like that.

 

Maybe a termination and a third class ticket to New Amsterdam? Something completely Tory. (And yes I nicked that off Frankie Boyle)

Found it - back in 2012 or 2013 Zahawi claimed nearly 6 grand in expenses under the second homes rule to pay an electricity bill on his stables.

 

He may have paid it back since, I don't know anything for sure about that though.

When I saw that I wondered why he felt fit to highlight that instance of rough-sleeping in particular. Does he move in such rarefied circles that this is a novelty to him? He responded a couple of times in the replies to say that had he seen the same thing in Victoria he would say the same. Well, there's plenty of homeless people in Victoria, always have been, and I don't recall him once flagging that up under the past 14 years of Tory rule, or when Johnson was Mayor of London.

 

Whatever his reasoning, he's made himself look like the out of touch opportunist that he is.
