The noise coming through from our heartbroken politicians is the best way to prevent another like for like killing is to stop certain people using twitter, or to be more precise stop certain people using twitter to say nasty things about politicians. The fact that presently their is no evidence the murderer had a twitter account or ever even used twitter is completely irrelevant.

Yep they are using this as a tool to stop them being criticised now.

"But you awarded your friends company with no experience the multi million pound contract"

"How dare you, an MP died because of things like this!"

Yes. A very strange development in this story. Particularly when nobody has reacted to this death by criticising the role that the press play in stimulating hatred and abuse toward politicians.

Johnson talking about the need for more respect in public discourse. Am I misremembering here but didn't an MP say in the chamber a couple of years back that she'd been threatened because of Johnson's Brexit rhetoric?

Yep, and this man also agreed to have a journalist beaten up and actively encouraged divisive rhetoric.

He and his ilk are the problem, but they'll milk this for all the political capitol they possibly can as that's the grifters way.

Yes.

And Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson also dismissed her concerns as "humbug" or something like that.

Yes, and he replied saying he’d never heard so much humbug!!!!

Add Patel continuing to use the term “ activist lawyers “ when describing human rights lawyers after she’d been asked not to.

One of the Tories suggested a bomb should be delivered to the Office of a Labour MP

These people have the cheek to ask for us all to be nicer to each other when they have done more to stoke up division than anybody, assisted by a right wing press

Here we go, clamping down on twitter and social media  although their is zero evidence the crime had anything to do with twitter and social media,

They have lost their minds.

Threatening to drag Zuckerberg in to explain why he lets people, like Darren Grimes, be cunts?

Asking Jack Dorsey to apologise for Nigel Farage?

Why not bring the Somalian president in for questioning?

"David's Law"? Fucking hell. They're using the death of a colleague to score points.

They want to get rid of social media anonymity. Then social media. Then any opinions that they don't like.

All from that horrible tub of shite Mark Francois using his usual war references once called Jean Claude Junker “Herr Junker in the Bunker” (even though he’s not German).

Will Self should have decked the cunt

This must be the most half witted set of mps in history, the below barnpot idea has more relevance than the policing of twitter, and this idea was out with the fairies, but at least their was a link,

I don't think they've lost their minds at all, they've seized on an opportunity to curb anonymous criticism of themselves. Not a mention of abuse and hate spoken in the media and printed press though, which sort of explains their goals, I'm sure the free speech boys will be along in a minute,

The lack of opposition to this social media proposal proves those 'freedom of speech' 'cancel culture' right wing groups do not want freedom of speech for you but only for them, they don't care if you get cancelled as long as they're not, so they can be left alone to spout their right wing rhetoric to the masses without fear or accountability.

Ah so it's our fault, whoever we are. Nick Clegg (cause this is what your defence is about, right?) and Facebook is not the social media output that's being threatened with censorship by our own government.

Oh and where are the Libs on this? Surely against their ethos?

The only people for whom it's been about Nick Clegg is you. Why do you think a Liberal would go and work for Facebook in the first place? Use your brain. Every negative story about Facebook "not paying taxes", "not doing enough to stop extremism" and so on was only ever about one thing: CONTROL. Facebook is beyond the control of governments and they hate it. Fortunately they have enough useful idiots to run interference for them, so when the clampdown comes, there'll barely be a whimper of opposition.

My view is that this is for the birds and won't happen. Johnson grandstanding when he knows full well any serious attempt to legislate will get watered down, mired in legal challenges and probably very easy to ignore in practice due to a complete lack of resources to police the thing. Very soon the public will wake up again to the fact we have the highest Covid rates in the world and booster jabs nowhere to be seen. Restrictions will be back and this will be largely yesterdays news.
