You keep repeating that quote but it's a very simplistic approach, doesn't the EU give rich European countries workers  an unfair advantage over workers from say Asia or the Caribbean?

If Labour are seen to be more worried about a lorry driver from Latvia than one from Leicester, or a care home worker from Hungary than one from Huddersfield they are going to get hammered by voters at the next election.  I'd think most of the European workers who have returned have found employment anyway simply because the vast majority are willing to travel and are good at their jobs.

As for the Unions, lack of mass available labour has undoubtedly strengthened their hand, as shown by the new Unite leader flagging up wage rises recently gained in Poultry factorys.

On the subject of young voters choosing socialism but rejecting the Labour Party, a fair point is made here by Bastani, the Labour Party is gifting votes,

So Bastini tweets that poll to give support to his argument that the young voters Labour's lost for calling them racist have gone to the Greens? If not, where else does he think they've gone?

Likewise. Half the shadow cabinet I wouldn't know what role they're in and the other half I wouldn't even know who they are.

Imagine being at a weekly shadow cabinet meeting.  Just imagine it.  I'd be chuckling quietly and playing footy manager on my phone.  Absurd notion they are using their time constructively.

Indeed

In 2004, he moved to The Sun as the paper's defence editor. He was promoted to the role of political editor there in 2009, although it was intended for him to remain involved in the title's defence coverage.[6]

During his time at The Sun, he was a broadcast commentator on politics, appearing on BBC Two's Sunday Politics programme, and occasionally hosting BBC Radio 4's The Week in Westminster. Newton Dunn has also been a panellist on Any Questions?, and reviewed the papers on Sky News. Before the programme's demise he sometimes hosted What the Papers Say.

Newton Dunn left The Sun to become a presenter and chief political commentator at the newly-formed Times Radio in summer 2020. He was replaced as political editor by Harry Cole.[7]

It’s “typical lefty woke” to point out the casual racism at play. It’s all our fault leave Gavin Williamson alone you bullies.

No rises for the bottom or the middle bands, but here comes the huge suprise...

How much? There are fresh doubts over how the NHS is spending its money this morning on the front page of the Telegraph, where Gordon Rayner, Ben Riley-Smith and Chris Hope report the health service is hiring 42 new executives on staggering salaries of up to £270,000 each. Playbook hears seven of these roles could be paid the full £270,000 — almost double the salary of the prime minister. The government insists the number of megabucks execs is coming down from 100 to 42.

Then there will be the the consultancy fees, finders fees, completion fees and all manner of money being syphoned off, glorious stuff.

There was a story a few weeks back about how they had paid hundreds of thousands of pounds out for individual positions in 'head hunter' fees for public domain jobs.

EDIT: There must have been a big internal backlash and nobody wants anything to do with the SCB as they've sent Whately out to defend it.

Watching GMB this morning as they discuss immigrants in the channel. This Tory cunt is very good at not answering questions.   What a despicable country we’ve become.

They are experts at it.

The Tories are staying at around 40% in the polls because they now have the solid support of the country’s racists thanks to the limiting immigration messaging of the Brexit vote, and the dog whistle stuff Priti Vacant loves to engage in.

This unholy alliance with their core support of people whose chief priority is to hold on to as much of their wealth as possible is why they never dip below 40% in the polls. These people will forgive Johnson anything as long as he pays enough attention to their priorities.

I heard a report on the radio the other week that Russian bots have been targeting online news sites comments, and the Daily Mail in particular. They have been particularly targeting stuff on immigration and Covid, and trying to make life difficult for Western governments and encourage the conspiracy nuts.

There's some noise that all the polling, post announcement of the care bill, is showing a massive distaste and backlash, which is making the backbenchers nervous.

Patel going out and saying 'sink the boats' might get some back, but if the message that this is a tax on the poor holds, which it should if managed right, it could be be a real problem.

Some Tories are calling Johnson 'Blue Labour' as an insult, though ironically that might actually help his prospects, and that it is a refutation of Tory values.

If the reshuffle rumours are true as well he might be binning off a few of the deadwood and have to bring in more hardliners to placate the demented fucks, which will cause all kinds of policy headaches. Liz Truss could be a victim apparently which will throughly throw the Hail readership in to self-rightous spasms.

Interesting days we live in.

Been happening for years.

You used to be able to spot them as they were like word soup, but now they are much more refined.

Easiest way to spot one is to look at the creation date, amount of followers and topics commented on, if they are all low it's most likely a bot.

What a time to be alive, eh?

It would be nice to see that Bruce, but I don’t hold out much hope from the few news vox-pops I’ve seen this week from such Northern delights as Durham, Blackpool and Don Valley. The only area that held out any hope was a Sky News one in Chester which already has a Labour MP. Though to be fair, the majority of people I saw questioned on these were pensioners who won’t be paying any increase in NI unless they’re still working, and even then they’ll only be paying 1.25% of a likely more than decent salary.
