The Athletic suggesting that all games set for gameweek 20, (away at Leicester) will be postponed.

This is all well and good, but echoing our great leader, klopp, it won't matter a fuck unless players are vaxed, otherwise it just kicks the problem a week down the road.

Perhaps the argument around this game is it's only 48 hours after boxing day. So it's not some kind of reset, more it's impossible to use the squad across the 2 games when half of them have covid.  For instance if we were playing on Tuesday, we'd only be able to change about 3 or 4 players and that would rely on no more covid cases.

I presume that would be acceptable to most, bar one or two naysayers. City for example, given their oil cheatingly cuntish assembled squad. Also, the winter break will have to go for a Burton so rearranged games could take place. Either that or elongate the season.

It doesn't do anything for the current situation repeating though, ie how to handle fixtures when there are multiple cases within squads. That there is still no hard policy for it nearly 2 years later is an indictment on the FA and Premier League.

But the downside with the winter break being used to fill games for us, it's while afcon is on and we will have 3 players off playing for Brazil in WC qualifiers.

Spurs are out of the Euro Conference League (whatever it's called) as UEFA rule that they forfeited their game against Rennes.

Harsh. But Spurs are cunts, so funny too.

Bit of a result for Spurs.

Getting knocked out of that competition is probably a better outcome than winning it.

I hate Chelsea with a passion but Tuchel seems alright.

Can you imagine the moans and groans out of the Catalonian freedom fighter Pep if he had to play without numerous first teamers missing as Chelsea and ourselves did. He's a gigantic knobhead.

He wouldn’t say anything of value. He’d pull his affronted, passive-aggressive, wide-eyed schtick.

Premier League clubs have chosen to fulfil festive fixtures despite ongoing disruption caused by Covid-19 cases.

The league's 20 clubs met on Monday to discuss how they could deal with the challenges faced after six fixtures were postponed because of Covid-19 numbers over the weekend.

The postponement of a round of games over Christmas was a possibility.

No vote took place and so two rounds of fixtures are in place across five days from 26 December.

It had been expected that gameweek 20, starting on 28 December, would be postponed in order to ease the pressure on Premier League squads.

Instead, clubs have been advised if they have 13 fit players, plus a goalkeeper, they should fulfil their games.

There are however talks between clubs and authorities to scrap FA Cup replays in rounds three and four, and to reduce EFL Cup semi-final ties to one-leg matches.

In Sunday's Premier League fixtures, Chelsea named just six substitutes for their draw at Wolves and Liverpool drew at Tottenham without a number of first-team names.

Five of Saturday's six fixtures were called off. Chelsea tried to get Sunday's fixture at Wolves postponed and boss Thomas Tuchel said his players were put at "huge risk... not just because of Covid but also physically".

It is understood Liverpool were among a group of clubs who pushed for the postponement of gameweek 20.

PL clubs vote to continue Christmas programme.

So, with a number of clubs having an easier schedule after having 1 or 2 PL games cancelled plus even European ties, we're to continue with this farce.

No doubt the clubs who've had games cancelled will now push for these games to be squeezed into the laughingly called, 'PL Winter break' to meet their needs and clubs who didnt have games postponed, at an immediate disadvantage because of their full schedule or even losing players to ACON if it goes ahead.

Lamentable.

Oh, and I expect those moaning fucks at Shrewsbury will moan even louder at possibly missing out on replay money if the FA do cancel 3rd & 4th round FA Cup replays.

The Premier League is planning to carry on with its festive programme of matches and not impose a so-called ‘firebreak’ – although clubs have been warned that restrictions may be necessary in January.

At an emergency meeting of all 20 clubs the Premier League strongly argued that there is no need for a circuit-break now to combat the rising number of Covid 19 cases partly because disruption will probably have to come in the new year.

The organisation laid out the possible scenarios to the clubs although this is clearly subject to change with the Cabinet also meeting on Monday to discuss whether further restrictions should be imposed.

At the same time the Football Association has agreed – in principle - to scrap replays for the third and fourth rounds of the FA Cup to help reschedule games and because more disruption is expected. However no final decision has been taken and it depends on how the pandemic develops.

Despite six of the 10 matches at the weekend being called off due to the high number of positive tests the Premier League argued that there was no need to postpone all of the forthcoming round of fixtures on Boxing Day and on December 27 or, alternatively, the next set of games on December 28, 29 and 30.

One argument put forward by the Premier League was that to call off games now could create even more problems in the coming weeks if, as expected, the Government imposes further restrictions and the Omicron variant becomes even more prevalent leading to a pause or games being played with limited capacities or behind closed doors.

The football calendar for 2022 is already extremely congested and there is little room for matches to be moved in what will be a World Cup year.

Because of the busy agenda two other meetings originally proposed for today – one involving managers, the other captains and senior players – will now take place later in the week.

At today’s meeting the case was put forward for having to accept that young fit and vaccinated players may get Covid but will also not get seriously ill – but also that getting them fully vaccinated is morally and medically important.

The Premier League is due later this week to release figures showing the vaccination rates among players. The latest data was published in mid-October when it was revealed that only 68 per cent of players were double-jabbed with 81 per cent having had one dose of the vaccine. Since then the figures have gone up encouragingly, it appears, but there is also now the issue of receiving the booster jab.

It was also stressed that clubs will have to accept the rules they signed up to at the start of the season covering the criteria under which games will be called off.

All clubs have been explained the rules and voted on them. They are set out in Appendix 17 of the Premier League’s 2021-22 handbook and while each decision is taken on a case-by-case basis, clubs are guided that if 14 or more players are available then permission will not be granted to postpone.

Clubs will be expected to utilise under-21 players with suitable experience in the Premier League, the English Football League or overseas. However the board do also consider medical advice from clubs on whether it is deemed to be an uncontrollable outbreak, in which case it is seen as unsafe to bring players together.

Some clubs, however, believe the ‘case-by-case’ approach is leading to a lack of consistency while the Premier League is frustrated that managers appear to have tried to manipulate the situation to suit their own needs.
