I'm not sure extra subs disadvantages the smaller sides. Take Burnley with their small squad, if they're playing City and they bring on Sane then Burnley can bring on a fresh fullback. In the usual scenario Sane is coming on anyway but he is up against a bolloxed Phil Bardsley instead of a fresh fullback who can I can't think off. Most teams substitute a winger, a striker and either a midfielder or second winger or striker. That's been the case for 25 years, they will still do that but now the opportunity is there to add 2 more, I don't see the big deal and I also don't see it being used to capacity, Klopp certainly won't unless the game is won.

Let's say Burnley are playing the oil cheats and with 10 mins left it is 0-0.... the usual 3 subs each have been made - City have rolled the dice with bringing on one of their big match winners but they have been shut out.

Suddenly against the odds Burnley go in front.

Ordinarily City have to find a way back with what they have got, but now they have the ability to bring fresh potential match winners from their embarrassment of riches on to save the game....it's giving them rolls of the dice they wouldn't usually have and the deeper the squad the more likely these extra rolls paying off are.

You can only make substitutions on 3 occasions. So that scenario can't happen.

What you can't do a double and a single and then another double?

For clarity when i said they've bought on one of their big match winners that was in the 3 subs not a 4th...

You said that after the usual 3 subs each had been made, that City could just sub on another two players if needed. The rules don't allow that.

You are right that teams can do a double, single and then another double to bring on 5 subs.

The 3 subs i mentioned was number of players not instances of substitutions....i should have made that clear!

Yet again TV not thinking of the fans, how the fuck are we supposed to arrange a mass gathering outside an empty stadium if they keep messing about with the kick off times

Pleased we haven’t got a game on the weekend of my son’s 30th birthday. Not that they’ll be a big celebration but at least I don’t have to worry about any football getting in the way!

Are we really going to go 8 days without a game? I thought this 5 sub lark was because we're compressing the league into a short period?

I reckon 4 teams said we want 3 subs and then we want to add 2 outfield players so we can finish the match with 13 players.

Unsurprisingly the other 16 teams told them to do one.

Zero positives in the latest round of PL Covid testing.

Good news. Im a bit worried about these 'friendlies' against Championship or other sides though. Are these teams players being tested properly? Preston went to full contact training before getting their results and when they came back, a number were positive!

Where did you see that mate ? It’s finished. There are still the two cup final to be played though. Wfuch us a bit weird, if the season is over, it should be totally over.

Ligue 1 season could resume despite being prematurely ended in April with play-offs used to crown the champions and decide relegation, UEFA have said.

Prime Minister Edouard Philippe announced the cancellation of all sporting events at the end of April and the table was decided on a points-per-game basis with Paris Saint-Germain winning the title.

But following the successful return of the German Bundesliga, the Premier League, LaLiga and Serie A have all confirmed their competitions will resume, indicating France may have been hasty to call a halt to their campaign.

UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has now opened the door for a possible restart to the season after several clubs threatened legal action.

Ceferin wrote in an official UEFA communication on Friday: 'We would first of all like to clarify that it is the competence of national associations to decide on the format of their domestic competitions, in particular by taking into account the circumstances and restrictive measures specific to the country.

'As mentioned by UEFA a few weeks ago, the French authorities' decision to cancel the season was taken relatively early.

Nevertheless, and provided that the national associations are able to coordinate with the competent national authorities a potential restart of domestic competition, August 2, 2020, would be an appropriate date to end the domestic competitions.'

Seventh-placed Lyon missed out on European football for the first time since 1996 while Marseille and Rennes both qualified for the Champions League.

Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas outlined his intention to sue the French state in order to get the season restarted.

Marseille were second, 12 points behind PSG while Rennes finished third and qualified for Europe's elite tournament for the first time in their history.

Lyon joined relegated pair Amiens and Toulouse who have vowed to fight their case in the courts.

The German top flight resumed on May 18 and Spain's LaLiga will be the next to restart their season with the Seville derby kicking things off on June 12.
