Coronavirus could prevent Liverpool from winning the Premier League title

Getting fed up of articles about how we could win the league in Liverpool, whether at  Goodison or Anfield. Other than Jurgen stating that lives were more important and reacting angrily once to suggestions we would ignore lockdowns we have kept a dignified silence and let the arsehole-fest swirl around us. The great majority don’t give a shit where we win it , so stop creating a false narrative in order to have a spurious pop at the clubs morality when we are champions.

It’s like headlines saying “Klopp says there will be trophy parade”. I saw that on the bbc and thought, I bet he heavily caveated that, as per. Which is exactly what he did, with a lot of stuff about the fact there are still games to win and nothing has been decided. Nobody’s letting that get in the way of making it look like he and the players think it’s over though. If we lose one or two early games when this starts back up, the desperate hope of us blowing it is going to light up and unite most of this country.

Yes. In general, the bigger clubs have bigger squads, with more internationals and therefore more quality players.

We could probably have a bench of 9 players, which would have 7+ seasoned  international / CL quality players.

Teams down the bottom wouldn’t have that quality.

I don’t even see how it’s a debate.

Well how it's for debate is the shite teams have shite players to begin with, it makes no odds which ones of the squad are on the pitch. Their players are completely interchangable in most cases except for one or two players. We all have 25 men squads. If we start a game with our best team, we're a 9/10 to 10/10 side. Swap out 5 players and we quickly become a 7/10 side. Brighton as example are about a 4/10 team. You swap 5 of their players, they're still a 4/10 team. So if Brighton play us, they should sit tight, try and give nothing away and wait till later in the game when imo it would be a closer competition after 5 subs. If Brighton start with Jahanbakhsh and replace him with Glenn Murray would it make a big difference? Both shite, just different shite. If we start with mane and replace him with origi, the drop off is enormous and the Brighton defence have a huge boost. Yes, we'll still be better than Brighton and origi is still better than glen Murray,  but the gap is less than at the start of the game. Multiply that 5 times and the sides are looking closer with the added benefit good sides will suffer with too many subs disjointing the team - see pre-season or international friendlies.

We keep hearing from klopp now we're good how hard it is to buy players who would get in the team. But that's also true about our squad players getting in, we have a massive drop off right around our team aside from maybe 1 or 2 in midfield. Shit teams just don't have that drop off, so the more players you change, the closer the gap between the sides become. I believe that's true of most of the better team with the exception being city, who could normally make 10 subs without a major drop off.

Whichever way you cut it, the bigger or richer or more successful clubs have stronger depth in their squads than the smaller, poorer or less successful clubs. It's a basic tennant of football.

End of the day, each PL club has a squad of, is it 25 players plus any number of U23s they can use. On a matchday, that's whittled down to 11 starting the game and 7 subs on the bench.

It's rare but sometimes even a PL club will not be able to name 7 subs on a matchday. Is the game cancelled in those circumstances? Nope, people crack on.

Breaking, Amazon Prime announces all 4 of its PL games will be broadcast fee to air.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-8383667/Amazon-Prime-make-four-remaining-Premier-League-matches-free-air.html

Amazon Prime has announced it will make all four of their remaining Premier League matches this season free to air.

It means 33 of the 92 remaining top-flight games this season, to be shared between Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime and the BBC, can now be viewed without a subscription.

The Premier League is set to restart on June 17 with Manchester City vs Arsenal and Aston Villa vs Sheffield United after the campaign was shut down in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Of the final 92 Premier League matches of the season, Sky will broadcast 64, with 25 to be made freely available - including Everton vs Liverpool on the first weekend back.

The 25 free-to-air games on Sky will be made available via Sky's 'Pick' channel and simulcast on Sky Sports.

The BBC will air four live games - currently unknown - alongside their usual weekly highlights Match of the Day programme and BT Sport will show a total of 20 live matches.

Amazon burst onto the Premier League scenes earlier in the season with rights to two rounds of fixtures, one in early December and the other just after Christmas.

The US tech giants agreed a three-year deal worth £30million-a-year with the Premier League in 2018 to stream 20 Premier League matches a season.

They impressed with their clean broadcasting format and high-profile pundits, such as Thierry Henry, Roberto Martinez and Harry Redknapp.

Alex Green, managing director of Prime Video Sport Europe, said: 'Like the rest of the country, we are excited to see the Premier League return to action.

'We will be making all four of Amazon Prime Video's additional fixtures in the 2019/20 season available free of charge; fans will not need a Prime membership to view the games on Prime Video.'

Although we know that Amazon have the rights to four matches of the final 92, it is still not clear which games they will be.

Planned kick-off times in the UK for live matches will also differ from traditional times on the Premier League's return in a bid to give the football starved population as much action as possible.

There are four different time-slots on a Saturday and Sunday stretching from 12pm-8pm, as well as 6pm kick-off times for midweek games.

Project Restart survey finds fans split over English football's return

The survey, run by the Daily Mirror's publisher, Reach, finds that football fans have been split down the middle over the Premier League's return to action later this month

Fans are split right down the middle over football’s return, a survey carried out by the Daily Mirror's publisher Reach has revealed.

Forty-eight per cent of supporters, who responded to Reach’s online questionnaire across the country, opposed football’s restart with 47.7 per cent in favour.

Fans were united in their sympathy for any players who do not want to return for health reasons and nearly 90 per cent said they backed their stance.

They understand the reservations, particularly of BAME players, who do not want to endanger their families and 87 per cent say they would support any who refused to return.

Reach surveyed over 14,000 fans online across its national and regional titles in England and Wales and unsurprisingly Liverpool supporters were most in favour of football restarting.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are on the verge of winning their first title for 30 years and 90 per cent of Reds fans want the action to resume with just eight per cent against.

Their enthusiasm is not mirrored by fans from the other clubs near the top of the Premier League and Manchester City are the most opposed with 80 per cent of supporters against restarting.

City trail Liverpool by 25 points and their opposition perhaps reflects the mood among their fans that their two-year reign as champions will soon be over once the season resumes.

Sixty-three per cent of Chelsea fans, 61 per cent of Tottenham supporters and 60 per cent of Manchester United followers are also against football’s return.

Over three-quarters of Everton fans opposed coming back with 76 per cent saying they are against the Premier League’s ‘Project Restart’.

This opposition extends to the clubs at the bottom of the Premier League fighting relegation and 65 per cent of West Ham fans and 61 per cent of Aston Villa do not want to see football come back.

Leeds fans were second to Liverpool in wanting football to restart with Marcelo Bielsa’s Championship leaders well placed to end the club’s 16-year Premier League exile and 76 per cent of their supporters are in favour.

Reach’s titles are seen by over 22 million fans every month and the survey is a fascinating snapshot of the football public’s mood ahead of the game’s resumption on June 17.

Nearly three-quarters of fans are in favour of relegation and 95 per cent of Leeds supporters are adamant the bottom three teams should come down from the Premier League.

Unsurprisingly, 58 per cent of Villa fans and 53 per cent of West Ham supporters do not think there should be any relegation this season.

Null and void came out top with 38 per cent as the best option if the season cannot be finished with points-per-game on 36 per cent.

Matches will be played behind closed doors for the foreseeable future and 65 per cent of fans say they will feel safe to return to stadiums when they are told it is safe again.

It's getting to the stage where winning the title in an empty ground with no parade is going to be more enjoyable than doing it the regular way. Okay, probably not. But there's going to be so much boiled piss that it'll be way better than it would have been if they all adopted a que sera sera attitude.

Yeah, I took part in that for shits and giggles. Absolutely no surprise at the clubs who want the season null and void or cancelled.

Would have been interesting if they'd have added a question or two along the lines of 'if you want it null and void, are you in favour of your club paying back all it's income including your ticket money?' and 'would you still be happy for the season null and void if it meant your club became bankrupt and went out of business?'

Great news football's return is only 2 weeks away.

Love the way the Mirror and other supposed sports outlets have kind of had a negative spin on the season being completed .

Here’s an idea finish it by PPG and then only when it is 100% safe for all fans to return that’s when we start playing again. Let’s see how many of those journalists like Martin Samuel start charging their tunes when suddenly they’re possibly out of a job .

Spurs announce they returned 1 positive test from Monday \ Tuesday's round of testing. Not known if it is a player or staff member.

The Premier League have announced one positive case of coronavirus from 1,197 samples across the fifth round of testing this week.

With exactly two weeks until the top-flight season resumes, numbers of positive cases have remained very low but climb from the zero recorded in the fourth set of tests.

It is not yet known whether the positive test is from a player or member of staff, or which club they are from, but they will now self-isolate for a period of seven days.

One of their players might have attended Kyle Walker's bunga bunga party.

The only surprise is that City fans outweigh Everton fans in the negativity stakes. Last I checked they still had a shot at the CL this season - and a far better one than usual for not having to play us. Silva's last season, Aguero not getting any younger etc. -- their 'fans' are lunatics for opposing a restart. Everton? Well..
