I honestly don't see how resuming season is going to work unless all players and coaching/medical staff are isolated away from their families until the season is finished.

All you need is one player or staff contracting the virus and it's all over.

A good job this isn't the attitude of the supermarkets who've been feeding us for the last month.

The players will probably be the safest employee group of any in the country and,if they do catch it, the chances of physically fit individuals of their age suffering serious consequences are remote in the extreme. They'll be better protected than the Queen.

In Spain, only 5% of all confirmed cases are in the age group 20-29 and death rate in that group is 0.3%, or 0.2% of all dead. Actual death rate in that age group is probably significantly lower, because it is likely that this is the age group with highest percentage of mild cases that don't even realize they were sick or the cases were so mild they didn't ask to be tested.

With professional footballers in the prime physical condition, best regular health monitoring available and level of isolation at their disposal, the chances some of them will get sick are really low and there is probably more chance of them dying in a car accident than having a serious case of corona virus.

I think the worry for them has never been themselves but more any of vulnerable family they will come in to contact with.

Can they not isolate vulnerable family members in that period (which they are supposed to do anyway now)? How ever you look at it, as a group, they seem to be at risk the least, compared to all other people that will be asked to work over the coming months. True, they won't have to be in close physical contact with others, but the protection available to footballers and everyone around them is probably much, much better than anywhere else.

I know Mane has but I’d love the club (Klopp) to come out and say what will be will be. Void it if necessary, we aren’t going anywhere and rest assured we win it next year.

Then we go and batter everyone into a pulp and win next season.

It's a nice thought mate, but how would the players get over that? I think we'd drop off massively due to such a humongous kick in the bollocks. I know they're a strong minded bunch of players, but that's a hell of a sickener.

The calls for it to be null and voided are growing, there'll be no way out in the end. But while lives are being lost we'll just have to get over it!

Yeah I agree with you.  They’re paid silly money to make sacrifices like this.  This virus isn’t going anywhere for a while.  We are all going to be exposed to it eventually in my opinion.  I just mean I don’t many of them are worried about dying from it for the reasons/stats you stated earlier.

That article from the Athletic about UEFA's stance echoed what I typed earlier in this thread. They left the door open for the Dutch to be daft cunts.

UEFA should have been explicit. Finish your leagues which way you can, declare a Champion and try to ensure a fair means of relegation and promotion. If you don't keep to any of these rules, your clubs are suspended from European competition next season. End of.

Instead, they let out a few loose statements about sporting integrity and merit which the Dutch have now exploited, causing chaos in the process

And for the likes of Lineker or Kilbane, what's wrong with using the method Belgium and Scotland decided to have for finishing their leagues? Why does England have to follow the Dutch version and not Belgium or Scotland who have announced Champions?

Fucking pricks.

Exactly! People need to stop pissing their pants over this Dutch decision. If Scotland decide to curtail they've already confirmed Celtic will be champions.

Our case to be crowned champions is more clear cut than Celtic's so why are so many convinced that the premier league will fuck us over?

Also it's not gonna be voided. Voided means expunged/never happened and UEFA have confirmed this isn't allowed If leagues want European slots for their teams.

It will either be finished or curtailed (NOT VOIDED), if it's curtailed each league will decide the final standings based on sporting merit and if they wish to crown a champion or not and relegate/promote.

I believe the decision is not just the premier leagues to make and a concencus has to be met by the both the EPL/EFL.

IMO the league will be finished regardless particularly if Germany get started without any hiccups but if it's not we will be crowned champions.

The only bigger kick in the stones than it being voided would be getting season started again, winning the first game then having an incident where someone gets ill and shutting back down. And then voiding it.

You just know it will happen.

If we did exactly that, and City lost their first game back, then we would win the league as the gap would be 28 points, and City would only have 9 games left.

Regarding an asterix title, whichever way we won it, there were cunts waiting to discredit us anyway. Even before coronavirus came into the picture, some people were already saying it was a "tainted title" for us.

"Oh, Liverpool only won because VAR was introduced that season" or "They didnt win it unbeaten" or "Well, they didnt win a treble with it" etc. So to me it doesn't matter whichever way number 19 comes. Because there would always be cunts who'd like to piss on our parade anyway.

Yep, fixed matches, PEDs, the TV companies wanting Liverpool to win the league to keep interest in the far east, everyone else in transition etc. Just cant admit we are actually a good team.

A breakthrough by a team of top British scientists means that, by June, people could be able to reliably test whether they have developed immunity to the virus – and then be allowed to return to work and socialise as normal.

The new immunity tests, expected to cost £10, have been devised by scientists at Oxford, working for the Government-backed Rapid Testing Consortium. It is said to be accurate to better than 99%.

Just watching that PL years on Sky....Mancs first title win in 26 years season.

Really brings it home watching their joy how gutting it is that our wait ending and how it would have felt and been has been ruined by a fucking pandemic.

I know people have died and are dying and of course that overshadows football - but it still is just unbelievable and gutting.

All that is just stuff people come out with is just sad, laughable shite that would have precisely zero bearing on how it would have felt when we won it....well actually it would just make it even sweeter hearing such bitter shite.

Our parade would not have been pissed on one tiny little bit by it.....a fucking pandemic breaking out and us winning it at best behind closed doors and possibly not actually winning it on the field officially and being awarded it in a meeting is a different beast though.

Parade well and truly pissed all over.

Yeah it will be a total anti climax but the only important thing is we win it and break this fuckin hoodoo.

Hopefully Klopp will use it as a incentive  for us to go out and win it again next season to put it right and allow us the mother of all celebrations for number 20.

OLIVER HOLT: Denying Liverpool the Premier League title or refusing Leeds promotion because you loathe them is no reason to void the season... ending it now is about clubs trying to dodge what they deserve and allows failure to wriggle off the hook

Voiding the Premier League season is not an option that we should even be entertaining. The same applies to all our leagues. Curtail them, perhaps, if the agonies of the coronavirus crisis mean either that the public really don’t care or it is no longer feasible to complete the matches. But do not void them, because that would be to bow to the politics of envy. It would be a victory for greed and fear. It would be a victory for vandalism.

Voiding plays to the lowest common denominator. It allows failure to wriggle off the hook. It allows failure to thwart success. It gets everything the wrong way round. Voiding is not about achieving something yourself; it is about stopping others achieving something. It is about a victory for vested interests. It is about denying players something they have worked for because you cannot bear to see them get their reward.

Voiding is about wiping something out, not creating it. It is about destroying something, not building it. It is about trying to bully your way into having another go because you have messed it up this time. It is about trying to avoid your fate if you are facing relegation or failure to qualify for the Champions League. It is about trying to dodge what you deserve.

This situation is not like the 1939-40 football season; the last time an English top flight season started and was voided. When Britain declared war on Germany on September 3, 1939 and the football season was abandoned, each team had played three games. Blackpool were top. No one proposed awarding them the title. That would have been absurd.

This season is different.

Liverpool, the leaders, have played 29 of their 38 games in the Premier League. That is just over 76 per cent. Championship leaders Leeds have played 37 of 46 games, as have Barrow, who are top of the National League. That is over 80 per cent. Similar figures are reproduced throughout the English football pyramid. Some leagues may be at a marginally more advanced stage than others but the picture is essentially the same.

The first impulse for leagues that can afford to do so should still be to try to finish the season and that is what the Premier League are hoping to achieve. Some say the public won’t care. Some think the need for escapism means they will care more than ever.

Plans are still being formed and they are still mired in uncertainty because sport has never had to deal with a crisis like this before. The Dutch cancelled the Eredivisie season and the FA did the same below the second tier of non-League football but German football is hoping to return next month and it is intended the Premier League will follow at the start of June. The games would all be behind closed doors.

Fulfilling them would at least allow clubs in the top tier to get the money they are due from the broadcasting companies for completing the season and give more legitimacy to the final standings.

It is possible that those plans will not be realised. No one can predict what will happen. No one can track this disease accurately. No one can tell us for sure what will happen if players in our leagues test positive for the coronavirus when football tries to resume. It is possible that the Premier League will be forced to abandon the season.

It is not a perfect solution. It does not account for form. It does not take into account the strength or weakness of a team’s remaining opponents. Maybe, over the course of what remained of the season, positions would have changed.

But it’s the best we can do. And, I’m sorry, but unless jealousy or schadenfreude or fear are your ruling passions, unless someone being denied something is more important to you than you achieving something, I cannot see how deciding finishing positions based on what a team has already worked so hard for can be worse philosophically than the nihilism of just wiping it all away.

Take, as a test case, the National League, which has announced that its season is over and is mulling over what to do next. There are nine games left in its top division and Barrow are four points clear of Harrogate. Many fans still seem aghast at the idea that Barrow should be promoted. They point to faltering form and the fact Barrow still had to play at Harrogate.

I understand their arguments but using any sensible metric, there is no way Harrogate or Notts County, who are third, will finish top. So it’s either congratulate Barrow for what they achieved until something terrible and unforeseen brought everything to a halt or say you would rather everything each club achieved was wiped out and voided just so Barrow can’t go up.

I don’t understand that. I don’t understand the meanness of spirit of that. I don’t understand that impulse, particularly not now. Times have changed. Things aren’t perfect. Not everything’s fair. But if this season cannot be completed, a points per game average rewards those who deserve success most.

If all you have got is that you think it would be funny if Liverpool were denied the title or you hate Leeds or you can’t bear the idea of Chelsea getting that last Champions League spot, then you’ve got nothing.

100% right!

I just cannot understand why anyone could possibly think voiding is somehow fairer than calling the league finished with reward and punishment meted out accordingly. Why is it “unfair” to relegate a team in the bottom three for being shit but “fair” to deny a team a title and / or promotion for being excellent and say the season never happened (I know the Dutch claim they didn’t ‘void’ but that’s moronic because in practice they did exactly that, just with a seedy, greedy workaround to ensure they didn’t lose their European spots) It makes no sense whatsoever. None.
