'Liverpool own the title': Karren Brady makes remarkable U-turn on voiding Premier League season

Very telling. They have discussed playing in July. Karen and all the other premier league owners know it's being restarted and she is rightly trying to court good will, though I'm sure she earned the Taff's Tavern Sportswoman of the Decade award for her earlier comments.

The Echo are reporting (although I've never heard of their original source) that there's been talks aiming at a restart in July with the remaining games being played behind closed doors over a 4-6 week period with further possible suspension if the situation worsens.

Hopefully this'll be confirmed by a more reliable source.

This sounds likely - allows them to show a safety-first approach for the athletes/crowds, while also ticking the boxes for sponsorship/broadcasters etc. Had a ticket for the Goodison game .. have to assume that'll be a closer doors one though even if by some chance the latter games in the season are opened to the public.

It's 9 games, why the fuck are they saying 6 weeks is needed. Just play Sat-Weds-Sat and you'll have it done in three. Most games won't matter anyway. For most teams get a couple of points or lose a few games and the season is done and dusted. If it's behind closed doors then there's little reason for some players to play either and they can get time off for rest before the next season starts and as they'll be no preseason tours this will work as preseason for most.

Oh just fuck off with the contradicting messages will you? Why have UEFA got a bee in their bonnet that next season has to start in August? if it's not safe at the end of June, why do these cunts think it's going to be ok in August?

This is behind a paywall on the telegraph so it's only a para or two but you get the drift.

The president of Uefa has warned “the season is probably lost” if the coronavirus crisis prevents football from returning before the end of June.

Aleksander Ceferin revealed European football’s governing body had a “Plan A, B and even C” for resuming the campaign but admitted abandoning it was also under consideration.

The Premier League, English Football League and Football Association have agreed an indefinite extension to the campaign but may be forced to scrap those plans if Uefa cancels this season’s Champions League and Europa League and schedules next term’s competitions to start before the English game can complete its own fixtures.

“In this dramatic moment, the most important thing is people’s health and getting out of this crisis,” Ceferin told La Repubblica....

Because they put back the European Championship and are putting international football first. They'll want the normal month long break between the season and Euros.

An important fucking bit was buried deeper in the article (at least in the case of the BBC), probably because it diminishes the sensational headline:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52079717

"There is also the possibility of starting again at the beginning of the next [season], starting the following one later. We will see the best solution for leagues and clubs."

Part of the problem of that will be if you start this coming season a few weeks later you'll have Euro 2021 at the end. So then starting League season 2021/22 later means less rest going into the 2022 season and FIFA being bribed to hold a fucking World Cup mid season.

FIFA as normal and its hard on for international football being the most important(but then without International football FIFA is irrelevant) have completely fucked everything.

Top clubs should just pull out the league cups next year but then the sponsors will go mad so everyone will just play the U23s instead.

Well, fuck off the pre-season tours. Both domestic cups can be used exclusively for U23s, non international friendlies etc. Done. Our league starts much earlier than many in Europe as it is.

No way FIFA amd the national. Associations will stop international football.

I did see a idea that this season gets done and next season starts late.

Play 18 games next year then the top 10 all play each other again and the bottom 10 do the same. Shortened 28 game season with a proper winter break, during the ACON. Domestic cups become viable and players get a bit of a rest before the Euros.

Then start as normal the season after

I suspect the way the bbc are reporting this uefa thing , there might be an anti Liverpool bias generally , as this is the important bit

"The three options are to start again in mid-May, in June or at the end of June.

"There is also the possibility of starting again at the beginning of the next [season], starting the following one later. We will see the best solution for leagues and clubs."

I suspect that the broadcasters would bite on that, although you'd have to move a lot more games away from 15:00 Saturday to ensure they get to show their full allocation. Not convinced Sky et al would particularly want to move back from that format afterwards; Super Sundays, Mega Mondays and Turbo Tuesdays coming out of their ears. I'd take it as a means to an end for this season's title though.

UEFA don't determine when a season begins or ends in the individual countries. Even if they insisted on starting the CL and EL for next season on time (good luck with that) we'd only have to forfeit the seventh place EL slot to be be on time to compete in Europe by finishing this season by early September.

Also there may well be a big difference between saying the season is "lost" and saying it's voided. I read somewhere that the PL decided at their last meeting that they were all going to  stop talking about the possibility of voiding the season and to refer to curtailing it.  This is probably why Brady has changed her tune.

What about a massive penalty shoot out to decide matches ? Could run it over a weekend one location would be good TV. You may scoff but.esprcially.for relegation would be better than void

That would be brilliant , I'd pay for that , no problem.

If they were all like our League Cup game against Middlesbrough the season could last nearly as long as playing all the games.

Saw a suggestion before on Twatter that the FA are considering playing all games behind doors at St George's Park. One location. No policing issues, stadium staff etc. Thirteen pitches there, would be weird watching those games, would feel like the academy games on LFCTV.

Who would be singing the Ste Gerrard slip song at every game?
