Right. Still going ahead with massive public gatherings like football matches whilst every other country has decided to stop them is good news. Some people are living on a different planet right now. Ignorance really is bliss.

The fact that it is the Premier League that is meeting and not being forced to by government suggests that it won’t be “ as you were”

One of my worries is that the PL don’t give a shit whether any fan is safe or how many get infected, when have they ever given a fuck about us?

The virus has now started affecting players and clubs which is the PL’s assets. This is why they are worried now. Anyone who believes that interests of match going fans will be high on the agenda in this meeting ( although any subsequent press conference will say it is ) is deluding themselves that the PL.care.

Whatever they decide will be from the point of protecting their assets and their product. I expect that club/players insurance issues will be higher up on the agenda.

I just hope whoever represents us in the meeting is strong and clear that if the season is declared void, we are declared champions.

I think the season will be postponed for a few months. If they do end the season now, then we will be declared champions, no relegation from pl but with 3 teams coming up (playoff/mini league to decide who goes up among the three in the championship when it is safe to play those games), playoff/mini league among clubs to decide champions league spots.

The most likely is that the season will be postponed as it is the most sensible and credible.

That's assuming that the football authorities will act in a sensible and credible way...

They have to display some level of credibility here. We aren't 5 or 10 clear. We are 6 points from the title and could have it wrapped up in 8 days.

They have to be fair to the championship teams. They have to be fair to the teams chasing champions league spots.

I'm worried but I think they would be acutely aware that if they voided the season, they would be leaving themselves open to serious courtroom battles.

We're definitely heading for a temporary suspension, how long for will remain to be seen. It won't be cancelled, all 20 clubs have to agree on any measures and they just won't let a total cancellation happen. It's definitely going to be rather quiet on the sporting front for the next 2-4 weeks, maybe's a lot longer.

Just finish the season as and when, it should be next season that is cancelled/shortened. It's the only thing that makes sense, plus I'm not only saying that because of the position our club finds itself.

The meeting today is highly unlikely to decide anything major.

The meeting is needed to cancel games until further notice.

The Premier League can't unilaterally decide what to do about promotion and relegation because that involves the EFL. They can't unilaterally decide what to do about top 4/5 places because that involves UEFA.

They are therefore very unlikely to decide today when, whether or how to resume the season, and the consequences of not resuming it.

The broadcasters who fund the league will also have a say in that.

At most I would expect potential solutions and scenarios to be floated, and if was in FSG's shoes I would want to keep my cards close to my chest for now. Behind the scenes we should be talking to the clubs just above the relegation zone, those in 3rd, 4th and 5th place as well as Leeds and West Brom. Making any major arguments about what should happen next today would be premature.

Here's hoping Arteta & CHO are OK.

Think a few are whipping up a frenzy over the league especially since the Government has said carry on.

UK Chief scientific adviser Sir Patrick Vallance said cancelling sporting events is not a "major way to tackle this epidemic". "Of course there is a risk," he said. "But on average one person infects two or three others.

"You therefore have a very low probability of infecting a large number of people in a stadium, or a rather higher probability of infecting people very close to you, and that means most of the transmission tends to takes place with friends and colleagues in close environments, not in the big environments.

"It is true that any cancellations of things can have some effect (but) if you then get a displacement activity, when everyone congregates somewhere else, you may have perversely an increased risk, particularly in an indoors environment.

"So it doesn't mean you should at some point make the decision for the resilience point that has been discussed, but this is not a major way to tackle this epidemic."

Relax, the season isnt getting voided. At worst it will be suspended.

Exactly , football will eventually reconvene and when it does , it will surely start with the continuation of the current competitions . Why do anything otherwise?

So what you're saying is - we'll be crowned Champions in the next week? Phew.

Best thing would be a temporary suspension. We've already won the league, just a matter of time. Give players rest and get injured players back. It would mean we could go for the record points haul in better shape and the fight beneath us would be interesting with teams at full strength, bar Pogba who will obviously still be injured.

At the end of the day certain things are more important, the health of those involved as players/Staff/Fans etc. Just suspend things until it can all be played out in front of full crowds. Bin next season if necessary. Make sure the ongoing seasons around Europe/World are concluded. They could hold all the World competitions in-between, like the Euros whenever they wanted/AFCON etc. The cup competitions could still go ahead in Europe and domestically. Teams would play their best squads and lift those lesser cups. Of course, it's all about money so they'll probably make the players play 3 games a week until they catch up.

Great post that. With the international break games wouldn't have been played anyway.

Bbc running with temporary suspension being the most likely outcome.

It's the only sensible course of action. They can't just cancel a whole season and move onto the next one when things settle down. Those competitions in progress have to take priority over a season that is in the future, who knows what things will look like after all this settles down. It is also the perfect opportunity to give players and all those involved proper rest and recuperation. So what if next season is thinned out to just the cups, and the remainder of this season being concluded.

Declaring the season as void is impossible.

You can't start a new season until this one is completed because there are too many issues that have to be resolved, not least promotion / relegation.

If the PL try to start a new season without Leeds / West Brom etc then they'll face a massive lawsuit.

Then you have the issue of who goes into next season's CL. Good luck sorting that one out without massive legal problems (Leicester for one would be all over that).

And if the PL said this season was void, then every single fan who has attended games or paid for Sky / BT subscriptions etc would be entitled to demand their money back because who is going to pay for games that don't actually count and won't be mentioned in the record books.

You cant wipe out a season while holding onto the hundreds of millions of pounds you profited from. So fans could sue clubs, sky etc while the TV companies would be entitled to demand their money back from the clubs. In turn, advertisers would be wanting their money back from the TV companies and the clubs.

So yeah, this season needs to be completed before a new one is started, no matter how long that may take.
