That Haaland is some player the ugly twat.

The Bundesliga pisses on Ligue 1.

@Pistonbroke have you got a German side?

Local team Armenia Bielefeld, used to go a lot when their games didn't clash with ours. Still go now and again, both sons too. Top of Bundesliga 2 and if they win their game in hand against Hannover tomorrow they'll be 3 points clear of Stuttgart, 6 ahead of Hamburg and 9 ahead of 4th placed Heidenheim. They went through a hard time due to financial problems are basically being saved at the last minute as the fans marched on City Hall collecting money and demanding the club were saved. Took part in that myself and it ended up in everyone getting pissed on cheap beer, but it had its desired outcome. Now that the new stand is paid off they can invest in new players and keep their better ones instead of selling them. Also got a decent manager now in Uwe Neuhaus.

Watch the Bundesliga all the time on Sky Germany, either live or on Catchup. The stadiums have less toxicity than England, the prices are a lot cheaper and you can get drunk. Still got some bad wankers at Hamburg/Dresden/Schalke and Köln, although the trouble is sporadic and soon shut down. I'd say the quality is just as good as far as the gap not being to large between the top teams. PL has better players overall though and is played at a faster pace. This season is really hotting up for a fantastic finish, not just for 1st place but for the CL/EL spots and hopefully Bielefeld will be strutting their stuff next season, although it will make it a bit harder to get tickets for certain games.

Are you sure about that? Aah just seen your next line. Hamburg and Dresden fans seem to be the worst of the lot.

Got a lot of time for Bayern fans who always travel en masse, don't stop singing and drinking and don't cause much bother. Fuck their club though.

Bielefeld not actually existing must make it fairly difficult supporting them.

Ha, the Bielefeld Conspiracy. It was actually born from misinterpretation from some Uni prof in Kiel. Someone told him something about a friend being in Bielefeld and he said 'Das gibt's doch gar nicht' which means 'I don#t believe it' in German. They then went on to twist words and say a Prof had said Bielefeld doesn't exist. Most people just laugh about it and it's a massive joke used quite often by all.

Great City mate if you ever want to visit.

Yeah, Bayern are the Mancs of Germany and arrogant bastards to boot. Obviously living in North West Germany for 30 years I prefer Dortmund after Bielefeld. Hamburg fans are OK, but they have a bunch of radical Skinheads who follow them, when we played a friendly against them which was the first game after the ban in Europe (we lost 1-0) these Skinheads attacked a load of us outside the ground as we were making our way to the entrance for the Block we were all sent to, they regretted it like. Police did fuck all either. After the game the media said it all went without trouble, that was a load of bollocks. I remember them air lifting that slapper sam Fox into the stadium to sing a song and all the Liverpool fans were singing 'Don't get your tits out you slapper.' Funny as fuck.

It's great, you won't remember getting pissed. TBF, there are a load more Cities you'd be better off going to for Nightlife mind. It isn't crap, but not a patch on Gladbach/Berlin/Frankfurt/Köln and Bayern. Great Christmas market though and the Leinewebermarkt which has live bands etc/beer stands/food stands all over the place for 4 days and is free, is ace. Spent a whole 4 days on the lash with a Scouse mate many years ago and my Missus reported me missing to the Police who picked us up on the Monday morning sleeping in some park.

my old man worked in Dusseldorf, Essen and Krefeld back in the 90's. A bit of an Auf Weirdsehen pet style work on the bulding sites.

He bought me a Monchengladbach jersey and i used to follow their results fleetingly. But being honest, they've always been a bit shite, plus back i the 90's it was all about Serie A wasnt it

Here's the top though, pretty cool jersey in fairness

My uncle went to Euro 88 and got a local up the duff. He brought home a Frankfurt pendant which I had on my wall as a kid. Tony Yeboah used to score them rockets every week over there. I used to watch the highlights every Saturday on a some German station we had on satellite, there was always a bit mild porn on immediately after it finished.

Yeboah was an awful player until he got the ball between the half way line and the box and went for goal. Only Le Tissier is a better striker of the ball the prem has seen. Gerrard and Shearer close behind.

Does your cousin still live in Frankfurt?

Germany is ace. I've not been over for a few years now, never been to a football match over there but the racing scene is awesome.

I'm hoping to over there for a couple of races next year for one of the VLN rounds (a championship that races exclusively on the original Nurburgring) and/or one of the Tourenwagen Classics historic events if I can get the funds together.

My uni placement year is going to be working on stuff for my own business, which I've basically been running at the bare minimum because of Uni work so hopefully I can pull enough through to be able to take a trip.

Through some work I've done with liveries on historic cars I've ended up with a few friends and acquaintances in some decent sized teams over there so I'm also strongly considering the merits and viability of moving over there once I finish my degree as a few of them have advertised in the past for English speaking race engineers.

Diebels also did some racing sponsorship and the cars they sponsored in the DTM all looked pretty damn good.

I went to a St Pauli game in 2012. I was working in Hamburg on an Abercrombie and Fitch store fit-out.

The Sunday shift was quiet and I sloped off to the game. On the tram (I think) on the way there, a lad had a sign asking for tickets. He soon got one and I asked him for the sign. I was immediately offered a ticket and the sellers took me under their wing. They took me to their clubhouse for a few beers and then onto the stand.

St Pauli were playing Energie Cottbuss. The St Pauli lads told me there was needle between their club and clubs from the old East Germany due to the fascist fans that cling to the Eastern sides.

I was also lucky enough to watch the reds play in a pre-season friendly in Hamburg in the late-80s. Though we got beat 1-0 I was only a few seats away from Sam Fox who had performed 'Touch Me' before the game.

I think she landed on the Pitch in a British Army helicopter.

I went to the Nou Camp to watch Barcelona V Monchengladbach. The hotel I was staying in was not far from Sants station and was full of Borussia fans. After the game I was at the bar downstairs and started talking to a few of them. Talked to two of them for about 3 hours about Liverpool and they said I should come over for a game.

Kept in touch with them and me and my two mates went over last year to watch Borussia v Freiburg. Was a bit nervous as my mates thought it was a bit of a tenuous and random link going over to visit some germans who I spoke to in 2016.

The weekend was brilliant in Dusseldorf and they showed us around the city, having a ridiculous amount of alcohol in the process. We went to the Fanhaus at Borussia which has loads of Liverpool stuff up and they sing YNWA in the bar before the game.

Me and my mates are planning to go over again and we all keep in touch in a WhatsApp group. My mate was made up as he wanted to go to see a german footy match but got to see it with the locals and he wants to go back every couple of weeks.

The main guy who sorted us tickets out has friends who is a Fortuna Dusseldorf fan and a Hertha Berlin fan so we are weighing up the fixtures to see if we can go to see one of their games. Tge Hertha fan runs a beer truck outside the Olympic stadium!

Ah, reading about Arminia Bielefeld makes me sad. A college friend of mine spent a year there back when they won the second division back in 1999. He wouldn't have known if a football is blown up or stuffed, which naturally made him a Man Utd fan (although he only ever mentioned it in the context of Liverpool defeats so I think he was a fan just of the purposes of winding me up), but upon his return to Dublin he was gushing about his experience of going to the game when Arminia secured promotion. I still don't understand how tickets in Germany appear to be readily available and cheap, and grounds are packed, all at the same time. I had a long-term plan of us all heading over to Munich, where he settled, and taking in a game German-style. Heck, with his 1860-supporting wife it would have been very easy to get tickets! Alas, he went over his handlebars on a cycle in the Alps in August aged just 39, leaving her behind posting poignant pics on Facebook of her bereft state with their two young kids. We know not the hour...

I went to a St Pauli game a few years back and then to a Dortmund game two seasons ago. Very different in scale but similarly fan centred at both, from ticket prices to the quality of lager that you can drink in view of the pitch. I was in bits getting back on the plane after weekends in Hamburg and Düsseldorf, though. Great experiences, and I’d imagine any Bundesliga game wouldn’t disappoint. You could take in two or three games if you planned the weekend around it.

Yeah she is a teacher over there. Only ever meet her a couple of times when she came over here. Her dad lives in New York with his missus and his ex. He's a bit of a rogue.

Bielefeld beat Hannover 1-0, get in. Kind of an even game despite the ref being a cunt against Bielefeld. Got another home game against second off bottom Wehen next, looking good for promotion to the First Bundesliga.
