Report: Liverpool open up contract talks with Wijnaldum

Recommended Posts

Liverpool have opened up contract talks with midfielder Gini Wijnaldum according to reports.

The Dutchman is arguably one of the most underrated players in the league and his workrate and ball retention qualities are second to none.

It is those strengths which have seen the 29 year-old one of the first picked on Jürgen Klopp’s teamsheet over the past three seasons, despite added competition in the shape of Naby Keita and Fabinho coming to the club.

While his tremendous aerobic ability is one asset, so too is his versatility to play any role asked of him in the midfield three.

The Reds have been experts in locking away their key assets over the past few years, but the popular player has played his cards close to his chest about the situation.

“What would I like? It is difficult to say.

“It depends on what the club wants and how the situation is at that time. We will see"

However a resolution may not be too far away.

The Express(via the Athletic) say that talks have opened between the two parties and there is confidence an agreement can be found in the near future.

It is clear that Wijnaldum loves the club and the respect he holds within the squad is extremely high.

So let’s hope this report is close to the mark and we see the smiling Number five dominating the middle of the pitch for a few seasons yet.

What I don’t understand is why our FA Cup replay couldn’t be this coming week when everyone is back in training?

Because we play Norwich on Saturday, Atletico on Tuesday and West Ham on the Monday.

If the replay had been scheduled for the 11th, the players wouldnt have got a break because they'd have to travel back and do training for the game from the Friday before.

We are the best team in Europe by a country mile and one of the best teams of all time . We have the best manager in the world, a full stadium of the best and most knowledgeable fans in the country and we will be winning everything in sight for the next few years.

The only reason Gini or any of the others in the squad will be  looking for a transfer is because their money grabbing agents want another big payday.

Or they fancy living somewhere else for a bit?

The man is a machine and a beast all in one. Like one of them transformers that turn into dinosaurs, or something. Basically, we need to keep him.

That video should have not safe for work tags as it has made this thread very easy to masturbate to.

Our best midfielder, just wish he scored more

Agree, though the position he plays for us seems to be more about defensive work and keeping play ticking than attacking. When both Fabinho and Henderson play he gets into the opposition area a bit more, he's worth a sneaky FG bet then... When Ox is one of the three in MF, Gini tends to sit a bit more.

He's a goal machine for the Netherlands the last year or so, so it's not for lack of ability.
