Incoming! Lallana near to signing short term extension.

Adam Lallana is poised to agree a short-term deal with Liverpool that will enable him to stay at Anfield for their title coronation.

The England international’s current contract is set to expire on June 30; Premier League clubs have long identified him as one of the summer’s main Bosman deals and he is expected to move to Leicester, even though Tottenham, Arsenal, Bournemouth and Burnley have all registered interest.

It would have been odd, though, had Lallana left before the end of this campaign, given he has spent six years on Merseyside and the fact he is regarded as such an important part of the dressing room by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Klopp wanted Lallana to be available for the remaining nine fixtures and that is now going to be the case following discussions with the 32-year-old, whose terms will now expire at midnight after the final match at Newcastle. A date – or a venue – has yet to be confirmed for that match.

Lallana has made 22 appearances this season, 15 of which have been in the Premier League and he will comfortably qualify for a medal should Liverpool secure the six points they require to become champions for the first time since 1990.

There is an understanding, however, between Lallana, Klopp and Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group, that priority for selection should go to those such as Takumi Minamino, Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones, who will be at the club for the long-term.

Klopp also recognises that Liverpool are likely to come up against teams who want to sign Lallana, who will also be mindful of avoiding an injury. Leicester have led the chase for him since it emerged earlier this year that he would leave Anfield.

Brendan Rodgers, the Leicester manager, signed Lallana in the summer of 2014 for Liverpool when he left Southampton.

Lallana will be one of a number departures from Liverpool’s current squad; he will be joined by Nathaniel Clyne, who is training at the club’s Academy on his own.

Clyne has not played this season, following a serious knee injury sustained in pre-season. He will leave on June 30; Xherdhan Shaqiri is another who will depart with Newcastle keen on signing the Switzerland international. He, however, will command a substantial fee.

Real shame about Shaqiri. I wonder why he's been sidelined so much, he's looked pretty good whenever he's played and seems to have a good attitude.

Absolutely, we haven't won anything yet, and statements like that leave us wide open to the inevitable collapse which will now happen!

Reports that Chelsea have turned their attention to Kai Havertz. Might be to concentrate Sancho’s mind if it’s true they were after him.

That’s really shit news. Havertz is brilliant.

so while we were running who should we sign polls Werner Sancho Havertz ? Chelsea were deciding to buy all three . Tell you what I would take a transfer ban for a window if next one produced a result like that.

The Transfer ban when they outspent us.  Yeah I'd take that kind of ban on it's own.

Klopp has mentioned the situation with him a couple of times.  It sounds like his body can't handle our levels of intensity.

Wow, that's probably the last thing you'd expect, he's built like a brick shithouse. A little one like, but still.

I’d rather we shut up and win it first before making statements like the above.

I highly doubt anyone from the club has stated it like that. Klopp wants the players who will be out-of-contract to remain until the season is actually completed, that's all.

It felt like Abramovich had become uninterested in Chelsea.  They’d stopped blowing everyone out of the water spending a while ago and were sort of living off reputation and selling youth players for decent fees.  They paid a massive fee for Kepa but there were plenty of quotes around how they really didn’t want to and were forced into it.

If they sign Werner and Havertz though while the landscape is the way it is I think he’s back in the frame.  They don’t generate the money to compete with us so if they are paying out big fees and wages maybe Abramovich is thinking this is a good time to put money back in.  Fees will come down as clubs will not be able to hold out like they have been doing and they will only have City to compete with.

The Havertz thing could be the “well if you don’t bring the Werner price down or let us pay in instalments then we will go for Havertz instead” as everything has gone fairly silent on the Werner situation.

lampard is supposedly operating on one in, one out. I read the other day they were looking to shift 7 first team players on whenever the window opens. On the other hand, Abramovich may just be looking to take advantage of the supposed 'relaxing' of FFP?

I honestly do not rate lampard's managerial or tactical ability. It will be interesting to see how the Werner deal pans out because as you say, it's gone a little quiet and we know with Keita, Leipzig take a tough negotiating stance. That said, Leipzig say the've had no contact from chelsea.
