Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Whats annoying is that chelsea have had a free run at some of the best young players in Europe and we have not even got into the conversation.

We are in the best position we have been on years and uet we've not taken advantage of it. I just get a horrible feeling we are going to go backwards next season as we enter a third season without freshening up the team.

1. Werner should hav been signed.

2. We should have also got pulisic

3. We also appear to be allowing united to have a free run at Sancho

I dont know what the owners are thinking as those 3 players fit their recruitment criteria we have heard so much about.

You always improve from a positoon of strength but we appear to be happy to sit on our hands. This covid excuse for not having money has been exposed by other teams spending as normal with even Everton who had made massive losses about to drop £60m plus on 3 players uet we seem to be reluctant to pay €30m for s truely World class Player. The whole yhing just doesnt add up.

They looked dead and buried and like they were going backwards, but this summer is a quite astonishing statement of intent from them.

The horrible fucking twats.

I'm more worried about our side evolving. Our front 3 are getting near their 30s  so is Henderson then you have Milner. Thiago is 30 hes good for this upcoming season but hardly future planning. Thats the kicker with Werner and even Havertz for chelsea buying players before they are near their peak. We do need more depth due to the sheer intensity of this season and letting Gini go would be madness because of this, were going to need his energy and the fact he never gets injured. Jones, Elliot and Brewster are not solutions to anything this season, bright cameos maybe, in my opinion its to soon for them to make the regular step up to one of the best sides in the world. None of this is throwing the toys out the pram stuff it just seems obvious that we need new faces and I'm not FSG out or anywhere near but I don't think its outrageous that they invest in their own business, FFP isnt a season by season thing they have plenty of time to balance the books. We have older sellable assets on big money who will be shifted at some point.

I think we need a striker. People go bat shit when you say it but our front 3s finishing has been off since the beginning of the year. What's our conversion rate? a new face might give them a kick up the arse but more importantly be able to finish chances created, Firmino is my favourite player but hes been off it more than on it and nobody comes close to being good enough to replacing him now and then. Maybe Minamino can, he looked good versus Arsenal before Jones came on then the shaped changed and we looked poor again.

A couple of new faces and changes in play.

I agree with most of that, except I do think Jones has a part to play this season. I think he can play a part like foden did for city last season. I would also like to see him carry on as the captain of the domestic cup team (I'm convinced we'll treat both as effectively u23 this season), forcing responsibility on him, which perhaps can then translate to grown up performances in the PL &CL

Didn’t get that £20m then?

20m will have just been a negotiating position obviously - because they've shown a deal can be done at 15m. There's a very real possibility 15m was still too rich for us though, so we walked away and got the Kostas deal done while we could. If we were prepared to pay 15m, it would suggest as good as we think we are at negotiating, we're clearly not that good.

Does everything have to be a dig at the club?

We had our valuation, they had theirs, we decided not to go past ours and moved on to a player more experienced at the level of football we expect to be playing in, for less money.

Well if we wanted the player and Newcastle have been better than us at negotiating, it is a failing. However, that was just one of the possibilities I raised, the other being 15m didn't work for us, so we just got the Kostas business done, which is fine. But you just read the bit you want to as I dared to suggest you precious fsg might not be as smart as they think they are.

However your desperation to defend them is comical, you don't even know you're doing it. "Didn't get the 20m then" like somehow we out smarted Norwich, when all the facts show there was a deal to be done (because literally it has been done), we just chose not to do it as we bought an alternate target or failed to negotiate well. Or both.

I'm firmly in that camp. Let's just leave it at that - I've got batting and net practise at 11am, followed by catching up on some NASCAR this afternoon and then having New England Clam Chowder for dinner & then going out for a few Sam Adams' tonight.

Perhaps Ashley has noticed it's a buyer's market.

And with the Covid uncertainty I think we seeing this playing out. Werner being the exception because of his buyout clause but Havertz, our international champions league experienced LB, Van de Beek, some of Leeds purchases etc etc no one getting rinsed a la Maguire . The knock on effect being the drop in value of the likes of Wilson and Shaq etc  however if it is a realignment apart from the likes of Sancho it will be all swings and roundabouts I.e you will get less but what you want to replace them with will cost less. Let’s hope our scouting network have identified some players who would have been deemed not essential but nice to have who now represent good value. Clubs will sell as transfers will be a bigger part of team revenues than in previous years. Liked the murmurings of the likes of that Zambian international who scored twice against us couple of weeks ago think players like that could be bought for handy money at the minute with a 40/60 chance of turning into next generation superstars. Unfortunately I believe Havertz  And Sancho are a couple that we won’t see here however there will be others out there.

Opening line says it all. No need to read any further.

If anyone thinks a three-ring circus of a club like Newcastle, has someone negotiating transfers, who's doing it better than Michael Edwards, considering the numerous deals he's pulled off in recent years, then I have no words to describe how...

Probably Chelsea themselves when the clapping seal showed up on their doorstep in 2003.

I couldn't see Edwards buying Joelinton for 40 million quid.
