In reality we need to cover a couple of positions and bring in one player up top with a bit of quality. With sales and a few bob it should be not too difficult for Jurgen. We should have money available though, it’s a conundrum wrapped in a blanket on the deck of a yacht sailing down the Mersey dredging for gold in a river of mud.

I would imagine that Chelsea and Utd are just trying to take advantage of the market.

Prior to lockdown, neither would probably have expected to be able to get Sancho, Werner or Havertz. They would prob have gone to other teams.

Perhaps they think these guys are going to be the top players of their generation and have to strike now to get them, even if they are week in other areas. Perhaps it was now or never to get these attacking players, so they have had to sacrifice the defence for a year. Who knows.

In the case of Utd, given the age of the attacking players, they certainly have a few years to sort the defence.

You could be right, there is a huge element of the Mancs and Chelsea buying these players simply as they are the only ones willing to pony up the dough now. I don't think that Manc squad is anywhere near as bad as it's made out to be either, Solksjaer will get a tune out of what he has even with a dodgy looking defence (that only conceded 36 goals last year anyway). The Mancs are balls deep in debt, currently unable to fill their 70k plus seater stadium yet are forking out £100m on a player and probably about £60m on his wages/agent fees, at the end of the day that's not the kind of transfer I ever expect us to get involved in.

Whilst I think we've been affected by Covid, I'm still not convinced that we couldn't have speculated/invested in Werner. It wasn't Sancho type fees/wages, and he was all but nailed on to come here. My take is that we dithered and Chelsea stepped in with a silly offer to secure him. I doubt that there was ever any danger of us needing to pay him £250k per week, even allowing for the fact that we've probably just removed that from the wagebill!. As others have said, the more success we have on the pitch seems to equate to less money being available; we keep being told we're commercially savvier than we've ever been but can't find a £50m fee for one player having barely spent a bean last year.

Wasn't that because we had already spent a lot on Rush coming back? Also, we were also one season away from going on a 30 year run without the title.

Probably not the best example to use.

Yes mean the club had a budget and wouldnt go into debt to finance the deal for a player the manager wanted? It's a perfect example of the realities the club has had through it's existence.

What's moneyball about this?

Moneyball is about getting value for cash IIRC.

1. Willian - last year of contract

2. Thiago - last year of contract

3. Edinson Cavani - out of contract

4. Jan Vertonghen - out of contract
5. Ainsley Maitland-Niles - less of a moneyball signing but he wants to leave allegedly

Sarr is the attacking player who makes most sense right now. It just probably depends on whether Watford are ready to give us a discount on the fee they paid last summer because of relegation.

He's absolutely shite

Makes all the sense in the world till January 2022 when Mane, Salah, Sarr and Keita all fuck off in the middle of the season for a month.

I mean listen, we've got no money for top players and he at least has potential. He makes sense as a backup attacker.

Potential for benny Hill videos where he's falling over the ball.   Yet another player like Origi that we'll never want to see start a game or come off the bench unless we're out of sight.   Utterly pointless.

Nah, there's a world where Klopp turns Sarr into a top player. He's got all the physical attributes and positionally he's more of a fit than Origi. Sarr could at least play on either wing and not make it look super awkward.

Moores and Parry, it’s still painful to read these two names, who Had no idea how to run  strategically a club like Liverpool and sold us to Hicks and Gillet.

Yeah they didn't have a clue and still managed to allow Evans and Houllier to have negative net spends every single year without fail. You know an actual transfer budget.

Some boy this klopp turning Sarr into a footballer over night when he's looked nothing but an ackward gangly useless cunt all year.

Origi is twice the player and he's a million miles away from being good enough.

You miss that vital ingredient.  He had a good game against us.

Oh and add that CB we are supposed to be bringing in. Is our plan to get games cancelled as we have a quarter of the squad unavailable or something
