Cheap, bench option for the next time Kane gets injured.

Will always score a certain amount of goals wherever he plays , wouldn't be surprised with jose

I’m not sure if I’m super comfortable with Origi, Minamino and Ox as our only forward options outside of the main three starters next year. We could do with proper competition upfront like we have in midfield. I really think so.

Rather have Shaqiri than any of those 3

Deeney is fucking terrible. He scored 10 goals this season but half of them must have been penalties.

Origi is a better option. Would cost more though.

Deeney is shite.

Toe-ending pens is all he is good for except when up against certain defenders. Ahem.

So he can go and teach everton

I hope Ancelotti does just that.  Imagine the fume from the Bitters if they have a coach who helped the redshite confirm their superiority across Europe, England and especially their home city ?

Glorious.

Just seen on the Beeb that Villa, Bayern Munich & Bologna are looking at bringing in Aaron Hickey from Hearts.

He'd be a perfect signing for us as backup to Robbo. The fee being quoted in the article is £1.5m.

The lad is only 18, but has 34 senior appearances under his belt already.

Hearts have played him primarily at left back, but he's equally capable of playing on the opposite flank, and a little further forward too, if playing in a traditional 4-4-2.

Surprised we aren't in for him if it's £1.5m and he can play R/B as well.

Not seeing any mention of KJH as a possible LB. In truth I've no idea whether he's ever played there but it's not impossible.

Think Ki-Jana will be Neco's main competition for the backup right back spot, though longer term, he should be challenging to be competition for Gomez at centre half.

He could defo do a job at left back though. I'm sure he's played there a couple of times for the 23s when Neco has been on the right. It hasn't been often, perhaps even only for short periods of games when tactical changes were made. The old grey matter isn't what it once was...

One of the pundits (can't remember who, think it may have been Linekar) said last week that he doesn't understand why our opponents don't just "stop the fullbacks", when it's clearly not that simple.  Stop the fullbacks and then what? Stop Mane and Salah too?  We were much more direct a couple of years ago, so go ahead if you want to man mark both fullbacks we'll just play it straight into Salah and Mane more.  We could do with a creative threatening midfielder though just in case an opponent works out how to nullify all four of Salah, Mane, TAA and Robertson in one go.  Not impossible of course but not likely on a regular basis.

Yep, our tactics are easy to suss but you need the players, the discipline and more important - the stamina - to do anything about it.

It's like saying you need to stop Becham putting crosses in or Drogba backing into a defender on the edge of a box then doing a turn and shot, easy to say not easy to do.

It's not a question of stopping our fullbacks, it's stopping them and stopping Salah and Mane at the same time.

That's how I see it. You double up on the full backs, you leave yourself light in other areas where we have loads of talent. We've got a tremendous balance in that regard. The challenge is having capable players to stand in for the first 14 players or so, who can repeat the trick.

    • I was surprised by how little adversity was required to send him into a gale-force meltdown. He sounded like a Trump tweet.
    • Good post that. And I agree signing players isn't one man's job anymore. But you've only got to look at the difference between our same recruitment team and Rodgers against how it's worked with klopp to see how massive an influence the manager is. And obviously recruitment doesn't just end the day you sign a player, it should be very rare you're buying a player for 100% what you've seen previously in his career and not expect to get more (thiago would maybe be an example). The ability to bring in a bed down players and then get them to become the best possible version of themselves is part of that recruitment journey. Klopp does that in spades. I don't think guardiola does that too much at all. So for instance using one of your examples, Mahrez isn't a terrible player, he's alright. But he's the player at city who was drifting towards the end of his time at Leicester - he has good days but too many are mediocre. They haven't even got him to perform back at the level he did for long periods at Leicester. Then compare that to what klopp has done with mane and Salah. It's completely chalk and cheese.
    • I'd hate to be the fellas missus when Sutton and Savage hang up on him.
    • Sheffield are a team with some big lads in it. I think we'd have struggled a bit even if Virgil had of played this. Yes, he'd probably have won his fair share but he couldnt be in two places at once.   The early pen decision clearly boosted Sheffield's players and Im sure Wilder would have told them without Virgil, Fabinho playing as emergency CB and probably expecting Adrian in goal, to give it a real go as this was probably going to be their best chance in a while to get the 3 points off us.   I thought that opening spell was going to see us batter them and what an audacious free kick by Trent! The keeper did well to recover on that one to tip it over the bar.   Great to see Alli back but then he gave me a heart tremour on that back pass. Jota's performances must be pushing Divock towards a January exit? I really dont see Taki pushing Bobby in any real sense at the moment. Lots of energy but I dont see an end product. If Bobby's position is going to come under threat, it's Jota who's going to be the one.
    • These aren't Maribor. I don't think we can play mostly backups against them and expect an easy game. If you look at their squad, they're a giant side. They could give us trouble. Especially with no fans at Anfield which cuts out some of the intimidation and pressure factor.
