Because nobody's thought that destroying their own economy was a good idea before.

Wars can destroy economies. I'm pretty sure there are countries that have started wars.

If they're not bringing in as much money, they can't employ as many people. Pretty basic economics.

I mean, John Lewis is a worker's cooperative. If they're shedding jobs, then you know the money isn't there to keep them.

John Lewis made £117m profit in 2019 so they had a decent well to go to, unless they've dished all that out. Burger King had a £1.7 billion revenue in 2019.

Also, they were shut for what, ten weeks? Isn't there insurance for covering these things? And won't they have started making money again by now?

I dunno, I don't know enough about how it all works, just thinking out loud really.

I think we’re just going to have to face up to the fact that there are too many cunts in this country. How can you think they’re doing a shit job but vote for them.

Heopfully the gradual swing into unfavourable will continue to take effect.

Are businesses now using this as a handy opportunity to give workers the bullet? All I'm hearing on the news is burger king, boots, John Lewis etc saying they're shutting stores and getting rid of staff. Surely these businesses were making millions in profits before March - are they saying that's all run out and things will never be the same? Or are they just housekeeping under the cover of a crash?

Don’t panic it’s only temporary as next year the no deal Brexit will sort this mess out what with fabulous trade deals and jobs galore and so much much more....Boris and the Tory party said so and they don’t lie

I wonder if there's any other explanation besides "people are shit" for this phenomenon of a near constant 40% of the electorate believing the Tory party are the best choice to govern our country, despite bucket fulls of evidence to the contrary, including currently being top of the pops in the death charts during a global pandemic? Probably not worth exploring any further, of course, but sometimes I do wonder.

Probably that 44% of them voted Tory little more than 6 months ago, and they don't need to really reconsider it for another four years. I'd imagine most people have more pressing concerns at the moment than how they're intending to vote in 2024.

Because completely altering the meaning of someone's post is exactly the same as them excising personal digs.

I saw a question being asked - why did you delete part of his reply?

The question of why not? Covid-19 and the flu are the same (which if I recall was a claim made) was replied to with an answer that had nothing at all to do with the question - which therefore completely changed the meaning of the question asked.

What digs????? Just admit you were wrong about it at the beginning? No personal digs.

To directly answer the question and accepting that this virus is 10 times more deadly than flu -- there will need to be 50 million infections before there are 500,000 fatal cases.

12.2 mil cases -- 550,000 deaths

Need to pump up the estimated asymptomatic number here
