WARSAW, March 13 (Reuters) - Poland will ban foreigners from entering the country from Sunday and impose a 14-day quarantine on its citizens returning home in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said on Friday.

“The state will not abandon (its citizens). However, in the current situation we cannot allow ourselves to keep borders open to foreigners,” Morawiecki told a news conference.

Morawiecki also said shopping malls would be forced to close some shops, and restaurants, bars and casinos would be shuttered. Public gatherings would be allowed only if no more than 50 people were present.

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Denmark will temporarily close its borders on Saturday for non-citizens in a move to curb the spread of coronavirus, the Danish prime minister said on Friday.

“All tourists, all travel, all vacations, and all foreigners who cannot prove a creditable purpose of entering Denmark, will be denied entrance at the Danish border,” Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said.

The closure would not apply to the transport of goods, including foods, medicine and industry supplies.

They're going to test it on ferrets.

Who knew Gary and Phil Neville were going to be heroes in all of this.

They could use a few Tory ministers in a double blind test. Expose them to the virus and give them a placebo.

That would help stamp out a virulent disease affecting the whole population.

I'm only going to take a true red, white and blue British vaccine, none of this foreign muck.

If they do find a cure then I bet Trump and Johnson will be sending get well soon cards/flowers to Trudeau's missus and doing some serious arse licking.

Its still 12 months away. Apparently they are cutting edge at this, why its in Saskatchewan I have no idea. I think they do similar research imto animal vaccines and virolougy and since it came from animals maybe that's why.

If you read the link I posted that Indian Scientist in Toronto has been working in this field along with others. For the benefit of other posters here's the report.

A team of Canadian researchers, including an Indian scientist, has isolated the virus behind the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The isolation of the virus by researchers from Toronto's Sunnybrook Hospital, the University of Toronto, and McMaster University in Waterloo has effectively raised hopes of finding a cure for COVID-19.

The researchers, including Indian-origin postdoctoral student Arinjay Banerjee, worked on samples taken from two patients. In a secure facility, they managed to isolate and propagate the virus, creating a source of COVID-19 to study how the virus behaves.

The isolation of the virus will help them work on finding solutions to the pandemic, the researchers said.

Arinjay Banerjee, who is a postdoctoral researcher at McMaster University's Institute for Infectious Disease Research, and specialises in coronaviruses and in bats, said: "Now that we have isolated the SARS-CoV-2 virus, we can share this with other researchers and continue this teamwork. The more viruses that are made available in this way, the more we can learn, collaborate and share."

Highlighting the significance of their work, Banerjee said: "You can't validate anything without a virus."

Ecstatic about his contribution to the path-breaking research, Banerjee said he always told his friends: "When I grow up, I want to be a guy who gets called in if there's an outbreak."

"What's happening with the outbreak is sad, but I'm glad I can contribute to the process of understanding this and controlling this outbreak," he added.

Fellow researcher Dr Samira Mubareka, who is a microbiologist and infectious diseases physician at Sunnybrook Hospital, said their team now needs key tools to develop solutions to the Coronavirus pandemic.

"While the immediate response is crucial, longer-term solutions come from essential research into this novel virus," she said.

Congratulating his co-researchers, Toronto University microbiologist Rob Kozak said: "Researchers from these world-class institutions came together in a grassroots way to successfully isolate the virus in just a few short weeks."

Not looking forward to this if I get it, at least I can tell the missus to stop banging on about how lucky we are not to go through childbirth.

Pleased to say am on the mend after an unwelcome visit from Covid_19 (courtesy of New York) . At least now I have immunity I can help out in the front line of care with less fear.

Delta airlines to reduce capacity to by 40%.

It will also be trying to cut down its workforce, offering voluntary, short-term unpaid leave.

Some people are not gonna be happy.

I think most airlines are doing that. BA were ‘offering’ up to a years unpaid leave for staff at the back end of last week.

It will be every service/hospitality business as well. Restaurants, casinos, hotels, resorts - everyone.

AMC cinemas cut to 50% capacity. Nationwide.

Walmart:

We’ve also shared a new policy with them that provides extra flexibility to stay home, as well as pay options and support if they are affected by the virus.

Ugh, sounds horrendous. I've only ever had 'proper' 'flu the once and that was terrible. I seem to get paranoid and depressed with just heavy colds these days, so really not looking forward to this.

Hahaha, out of rep.

Shit thing is, the youngest lad has been off school for the last two days with a cold (shut for the foreseeable anyway, he just had a head start on his mates), Missus says she feels like something is coming on and my body is still fighting what I had last week. Could be the old mind playing tricks, but hopefully the fever stays away or it will be flap time.

If it's anything like regular flu, you'll know when you have it as it completely knocks the fuck out of you.

“You know what I've noticed? Nobody panics when things go "according to plan." Even if the plan is horrifying! If, tomorrow, I tell the press that, like, a gang banger will get shot, or a truckload of soldiers will be blown up, nobody panics, because it's all "part of the plan". But when I say that one little itty bitty virus will force you to self-isolate, well then everyone loses their minds and starts panic buying toilet paper.”

I tend to have a dry cough anyway. The past couple of weeks I’ve had sniffles (thankfully drying up now) and this week a minor chest infection with some low wheezing. The usual I get at least once over a winter. No high temperature though.

I had fever quite a lot as a child due to Tonsillitis, but you just got on with it and enjoyed the ice cream. As an adult I can only remember once when I had proper flu and my Temperature was 41°C and I thought I was fucking dying for the best part of 3 days. That was about 1990 just after I had left the Army. Fuck going through that again, especially in my advanced years.

Yep - the amount of psychsomatic cases after the pandemonium that has existed just in the last few days will be off the charts.

Yeah lads, no need to worry unless a high fever kicks in. More worried about the missus as she normally gets a few bouts of some shit over the winter months and always ends up on a nebulizer. They have a hot-line where I live and immediate access to records of all patients who would be classed as a high risk due to underlying issues. (if you give them the go ahead) Hopefully we don't have to test their efficiency like.

Sounds pretty similar to me- I had scarlet fever and multiple bouts of tonsillitis as a kid, and I also remember being very ill with mumps and measles. The 'flu I had was in 1988, God knows what my temperature was, but I couldn't get out of bed for over a week.

I don't know if this will help anybody else, but using Beconase nasal spray (for hayfever) really helped with the last cold I had over Christmas.
