We haven't got a hope of restricting it as the Chinese apparently have. We're far too much of an individualistic and economically driven society.

Reading about the exponential growth of this virus last night, no idea if it's true, but at the moment it's doubling in number every 6 days. If it sticks with that growth rate we'll have a million people with the virus by the beginning of May in the UK alone. 10% of those will require hospitalisation and 5% will need critical care.

Even if the numbers are wrong on this, they're not far off and this is what we are currently looking at. 10% of those infected in Italy needed a ventilator. NB. We don't have 100,000 ventilators in the UK.

I think many people are still sleeping on this.

What does it mean, it's doubling in numbers every six days? It isn't.

That was my reaction hence why I said I don't know it's true however in the UK at the moment it's doubling roughly every three days but that is a relatively small sample size. In Italy as an example there were 2502 reported cases on March 2nd by March 8th there were 7375. Both countries are more than doubling the number in 6 days. The average taking into account S Korea which has slowed and the US where they're not yet testing properly is a doubling in the number of cases every 6 days.

But how can you calculate this, there are different countries with different containment strategies?

The Netherlands had 128 cases on March 6th and had 265 cases 2 days later on March 8th (My wife is heading there for work tomorrow so we were looking) so I'm not sure how that "doubles every 6 days" thing stacks up?  Statisticians have a funny way of calculating stuff though.

Italian prisoners our all rioting because they won't have visits for a couple of weeks, during the major epidemic. Life must be tough in Italian prisons.

Iran on the other hand, released 70,000 prisoners in an effort to contain the epidemic. Shouldn't keeping people locked up help these efforts?

It's all so very confusing.

We wouldn't have lost to Watford.

If it means we win it at Goodison, or win it against Palace and City have to give us a guard of honour I'd say it's pretty close.

Obviously I'm talking about the world conker championships.
