Yep. Anyone old enough to remember how the police were allowed to conduct themselves during the miners strikes under Thatchers Tories ?

I remember it only too well, Iwas lucky poor Ian Tomlinson from the G20 protests and many others were not,

I am extremely nervous when I see police being granted extra powers. History tells us it rarely ends well.

Hmm.You may be right, herd immunity by stealth, however lockdowns have consequences, it can very quickly escalate to a big brother situation.

Got to be careful the cure dosnt do more damage than the virus. The red cross are predicting unrest in major European cities as the poor have little income or escape.

It's ok to preach restraint and the stay at home for 3 month mantra if you're an Ian Duncan Smith type with tennis courts and swimming pools in your garden, bit different if you live on the tenth floor of a high rise with a couple of kids and no money.

Also its humane to protect the old and vulnerable but it's the youngsters who are going to foot the bill. Youngsters who already have a bad rap economically. Maybe the government should float the idea a 50% inheritance tax, see how generous and appreciative the older generation are.

Now quoting trump, what a prick.

yer not a socialist, yer an arsehole.

Amazing there are people out there who still believe China's figures.

Naïve question maybe, but what figures have you seen that we should believe and why?

Quoting trump is never good. But there are points in there. Staying indoors varies in difficulty. I'm a software engineer. Not too bad. Work from home. Lost the gfs part time wages. Things are tight for a while but as long as we don't get sick we'll be ok. A lot aren't as lucky.

Must be a communist cover up. I suppose Japan and Korea are in on it too seeing as they've done so well at containing it compared to western countries.

I did not quote trump I made what I thought was a valid point that it's not a one size fits all solution and as the red cross warns could lead to trouble.

It's far easier to stay home for 3 months if you live in a house with a large garden and an indoor swimming pool when you are financially secure compared to living in a high rise with a couple of young kids bored out of their brains.

So what do you suggest?  All you do is moan about the situation without suggesting solutions.  Now, financially the government has done what it can more or less and as someone who hates the Tory party I acknowledge that they have gone beyond what I expected of them.  So some credit where it's due.  In return I will stick to my side of the bargain and stay the fuck at home.  That's the deal.

Because there is a subtext to what he posts, it come lower down.

a subtext that he has used previously, that the young will foot the bill for the old, which always neglects the fact that it is

most likely the poor old who will be lost, not the fucking richer.

so he waffles shit about the affluent middle classes with swimming pools who will be ok.

see graham has form, he’s a Brexit bellend. Which has also caused and will continue to cause untold harm to the poor and elderly.

in short he’s a bit like those fucking blue labour gobshites.

When you said we should be careful that "the cure doesnt do more damage than the virus", that's the same as what Trump, Bolsonaro and a lot of right wingers have been saying. Those that would prefer we just get the economy moving again, even if it means the virus going completely out of control.

I agree along with many others that it's not good seeing authorities bringing out all of these measures, it's not a normal situation though and the main thing is that anything they introduce is temporary. If they try keeping some of it we just have to try and fight against that at a later point.

Just trying to let this go though risks the virus spreading around the world unchecked, which could lead to more deaths than the plague of the 1300's.
