The loons on the other thread have now taken to holding Matt Le Tissier up as some sort of authority on the pandemic. It would be hilarious if it wasn't so ludicrously dangerous.

It's ridiculous. Everyone knows Trevor Sinclair is the man pulling the strings.

Jonathan van Tam is doing this year's Royal Institution Christmas Lectures. The subject matter and the other experts are worth watching, but JVT is less than charismatic.

Part of me thinks this naught be untrue, but I really hope it’s correct. Anyone verify it who has a Times account. The irony.

Antivaxers threaten ‘radical action’ after boxing drills on beach

Thousands of anti-vaccine activists have joined a group running combat training sessions and threatening “direct action” in a sign that conspiracists have become more radical.

In the past fortnight the group, Alpha Men Assemble, has hosted several meetings for “training and strategy tactics”, The Times can reveal.

At its most recent session, on a beach at Littlehampton, West Sussex, on Tuesday, up to 100 activists took part in boxing drills and a scrummaging exercise, in which two groups of dozens of people tried to push each other back.

Two more training and strategy meetings are scheduled, one in Brownhills, Staffordshire, on January 8 and another in Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, on January 29.

Attendees are told to wear a “black uniform, black boots and a black hat”. A “task team” will be chosen at Brownhills to carry out the group’s first “task”, in mid to late January.

The type of action planned by the group is unclear. Those hoping to join the task team have been told: “You will need to have a cool head and you will need to control your emotions. If you can not do that you will not be allowed to attend the direct action.”

The group’s activities are coordinated via a channel on Telegram, the encrypted messaging service. Set up three weeks ago, the channel has 6,000 members.

The group’s leaders are not known but a source said several seemed to have military backgrounds. Danny, the administrator of Alpha Men Assemble, did not respond to a request for comment.

The group bears a striking similarity to QAnon, a conspiracist group whose adherents stormed the Capitol in Washington last year.

Alpha Men Assemble states that its guiding principle is “saving the children” while QAnon subscribes to an unfounded conspiracy that a cabal of Satanic paedophiles worked to bring down President Trump.

The British group also shares traits shown by far-right and alt-right movements, including a paranoia over “antifa infiltration” and communism.

Members have reposted stories published by Tommy Robinson News, a social media channel run by a former leader of the English Defence League.

While the group insists that it will not incite violence and that its actions will be lawful, the channel includes videos showing how to punch and kick. One post reads: “I hope you have a fire in your belly. Time for action. No more f***ing about.”

The group’s channel shows what antivaxers could do to support their baseless claims.

In its messaging, Alpha Men Assemble criticised the ineffectiveness of rallies and protests run by people such as Piers Corbyn, which the group disparaged as “stand[ing] in the park” and “rambling”. It instead promised “pure unadulterated defiance”.

On Wednesday, a group led by Corbyn and Jeff Wyatt, a former Ukip candidate, marched through Milton Keynes. Some activists later stormed a coronavirus testing site in the city, abusing staff and stealing test equipment.

John O’Looney, a funeral director and antivaxer, had been due to speak at the march but is believed to be in hospital with Covid.

Wyatt, a former deputy leader of For Britain, a fringe far-right party, said he sympathised with Alpha Men Assemble but was not a member.

He told The Times: “I’m trying to keep within the law and within reason . . . [But] it doesn’t take much research around the world to see that the anger is growing massively. It doesn’t come as any surprise to me that they see things differently to the way other groups do.”

Fuck off is he called John O'Looney. The whole group and event sounds like something from Monty Python.

He’s a contender for best name of the pandemic but Dr Lance Turtle is still number one for me.
