Just been in Tesco at Larkfield, Saw a guy whos trolley was full to the brim with hand sanitizers, baby wipes, toilet roll soaps, everything that people need!!

I called him a selfish tw*t gave him a low down about the elderly and mums etc who need these types of things. Told him he should be f*cking ashamed of himself!

He said: “that’s all good and well mate but I work here, can I carry on filling the shelves now?” ..

So have the government abandoned their original plan? Last week it was, if you're fit and healthy keep living as normal. Now it's, if you're fit and healthy avoid everyone and stay at home (though a recommendation, not a requirement).

The ones advising the government.

The scientists are not necessarily devising the strategy, they are advising the government on the science then the government decides the strategy.

Government officers, such as Witty, will use the scientific evidence but will sometimes also take into account the politics and the socio-economics.

Scientists, currently on the outside of the tent, with relevant skills are being asked to work together and they are offering that help but are not being given the data to do so.

Here's a link to a letter written to the Times requesting that the UK Government shares the data, signed by over 600 public health specialists, doctors and scientists.

So there are dissenting voices but they are either doing it behind closed doors or they are not on the inside.

I think that Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson is going to have to show a bit more leadership and be more decisive about this pubs/restaurant thing.

I've already seen a DJ I know telling his social media followers that most of the people who attend his nights are under 70 so will be fine and that he plans to "crack on" as normal. The majority of comments on his page agree with that stance and are saying that they'll attend the club in question, as per usual.

Also, I've seen a pubs Facey page saying that they have no plans to close and that their customers have no need to stay away as they have a 5 star food hygiene rating. Loads of likes. Loads of comments from customers saying that they won't be told what to do and that the pub can rely on their custom.

Exactly what I was thinking.

It does seem to be one rule for celebs. I read that Utah received 100 test kits for the entire state. They used most of them on the Utah Jazz basketball team.

School closures: Teachers union announces 'some schools will close' as staff self isolate

School unions have declared they will have to close despite Boris Johnson insisting that they will not be required to do so due to the coronavirus outbreak.

In a recent meeting with the Education Secretary, Gavin Williamson, the National Association of Head Teachers insisted they will need to close due to staff self-isolating. With staff self-isolating, there are fears of a lack of staff. There were also fears over pupils with additional needs and those on free school meals.

Although the Government insisted schools could still remain open, the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) insisted they face a "pressing challenge".

In a joint statement with the NAHT, the ASCL said: "This is clearly a very difficult situation and a very challenging scenario for school leaders, and the government is well aware of our concerns. The most immediately pressing challenge is the difficulty in keeping schools open with growing numbers of staff having to self-isolate. It is likely that a number of schools will have to close because there are too few staff available to teach, support and supervise children."

I honestly think "herd immunity" was their preferred option so Johnson tossed it out there to test the waters hoping that the great british public would go along with his hard-line stance, when the backlash came they backtracked.  However he still got it out there and that will stick with some people, job done.

My best mate’s mam died on Friday. She was 86 and he found her in bed, she had been fine when he saw her on Wednesday and she hadn’t been unwell so no reason to think it’s linked to the virus. It must be a proper headfuck for him having to sort his mam’s funeral and all her affairs amidst a pandemic.

He said he was at the undertakers earlier and they’re gearing up for mass funerals, with cremations and burials set to take place seven days a week. Grim.

What you would expect to be a reliable source told me this morning that one local council has been quietly draining swimming pools under it’s control to use as makeshift mortuaries. I did a bit of digging online and concluded it wasn’t true.

Coronavirus: NHS doctor warns 'a colleague is looking after several patients under 40'

Patients are not put onto this kind of life support unless they were fit and healthy before their illness.

Requiring this treatment means you are as sick as it is possible to be and it takes an awful lot of time, resources and biological resilience to recover. Essentially, ECMO buys your body time to recover from illness itself.

It is simply not true that only the very elderly who we can imagine "would have died soon anyway" will get sick.

I have looked after more than one patient who is in their early 60s with minor or no health complaints and who exercises regularly.

They are not your grandparents. They are your colleague, your boss, your Pilates buddy. They are people very much still contributing to society who would perform well on any standard measure of fitness.

I want you to know that young people can and do become critically unwell and die from COVID-19. A colleague of mine is currently looking after several patients under the age of 40, all on ventilators.

We know from other countries that most of these younger patients will survive. But they will take a long time to recover - often in a hospital.

The impact of a sudden influx of coronavirus patients affects all parts of the health system.

Last week I looked after an intensive care patient who needed to go to see a specialist in another hospital. The patient was accepted by the specialist, but there was no intensive care bed for him to go to because it is now exclusively for coronavirus patients.

This specific intensive care unit normally serves the whole of my area of the country. For the next few months that service no longer exists.

The same is true of the life-saving operations that patients are normally admitted there for: cardiac bypass grafting, aortic aneurysm repairs.

Operations have, rightly, been postponed to free up staff and beds. My patient as it turned out, could be treated without transfer on this occasion but their situation is not unique.

Surely if they implement this quarantine at some point they'll postpone rent, mortage payments and the like.

    • He should be focusing on the integrity of the championship.
    • Troy Deeney says that he feels sorry for Liverpool for having their season spoiled by the coronavirus outbreak but believes all integrity has been lost from the season.

Yesterday saw the announcement which every Liverpool fan was waiting for regarding the resumption of the Premier League after a three month hiatus.

As has been previously stated, there are to be no fans inside Football grounds for the foreseeable future meaning it will be somewhat of a empty existence for players, managers and officials alike.

Jürgen Klopp and his players were masters in keeping their emotions in check whenever they were asked about winning the title.

But it would have only been natural for them to let their mind drift and envisage the complete joy and euphoric scenes that would have taken place at Anfield come the end of the season.

Watford captain Troy Deeney has been one of the main voices from the players expressing doubt on the resumption of the season.

Now that a return looks virtually guaranteed, the striker feels that the title win will always come with an asterisk attached.

Football 365 (via CNN) reported Deeney as saying.

“I believe that when it comes to the integrity of this season anyway, it’s already gone.

“I feel sorry for Liverpool because no matter how it plays out, they deserve to win the league. They deserve to get the trophy.

“But no matter how it plays out, even if we play all the games, it’s still going to be the year spoiled by the pandemic. It’s not going to be that year that Liverpool won the league being the best team and, you know, it’s 30 years they haven’t won for.

“So I do feel sorry for Liverpool and their players and Jordan [Henderson], but in terms of integrity, there’s no way you could say that this is a viable competition.

“It’s like running a marathon, 20 odd miles, stopping for two months and then sprinting the last bit and going: ‘Ah, that was a good time that.'”

As Liverpool fans know all too well, it’s not over until the finishing line is crossed.

There are two wins required until the Reds are officially crowned as champions.

And as we have seen during this hiatus, there will be those who try to pour a level of doubt on the achievement or in case of Deeney, deliver a level of faint praise.

In terms of the marathon analogy of Deeney, there will be no team to emerge from the pack and therefore no sprinting required.

Simply because, Liverpool are way out in front, the hard work has already been done as they have broken the back of their challengers.

We live in a democracy and opinions like Deeney's are more than welcome to be noted.

But the cold hard truth is asterisk or not, Liverpool have more than proven themselves as a class above this season.

And when it is all said and done, this trophy will sit very nicely amongst all the other pieces of silverware in the Liverpool trophy cabinet.

    • That’s my worry. Not that we won’t eventually win it but that we come back a bit lethargic and complacent because we are so far ahead  and it’s literally in the bag.
I want us to hit the ground running and put it to bed as quickly as possible, I don’t want it to drag onto four five or six games and then it stops again giving ammunition to those who said you can’t just “give” them the title as it’s not mathematically over
    • That's really bad luck for the lad in all fairness.   I don't particularly wish any ill on their players, except for Holgate. He's a cunt. It's the fans who deserve the venom and disdain.
    • The £25million summer signing has only just returned to full training due to a depressing series of problems, which saw him struck down after playing just two games for his new club. But now he will now undergo surgery on a severe Achilles injury. The freak injury happened when he was playing a round of foot tennis with team-mate Andre Gomes at the end of Thursday’s session.
