Austria has now decided to go into a full national lockdown. And announced that vaccines will now be mandatory.

Germany have declared a "fourth wave" and stated that they are in a state of "national emergency."

Russia has set a new record for daily official deaths.

This thing looks anything but done.

Yep. Thing is, the anti vaxxer propogators are still causing doubt in roughly a third of the UK population about the vaccine.

These same people come out with all sorts of stuff that the vaccine 'doesnt work,' 'isnt needed due to natural immunity,' 'changes your DNA' and a host of other nonesense.

They also ignore this virus is fast at mutating which can lessen the vaccine's efficacy, especially the Delta variant. But not everyone has the Delta variant while having a constantly high percentage of unvaccinated roaming around helps the damn thing to spread.

We are truely living in an age of conspiracy theorists. Some are just deluded mischief makers with others 5th columnist doing the work of communist Governments.

It's mad. The vaccine IS natural immunity. It's just stimulated by a process which appears to be much more preferable to and safer (this is not a claim that the vaccine is 100% safe) than catching a virus which can kill you and cause a multitude of chronic health conditions.

Yes, I'm not going to say vaccines are good without adding anything else because for a lot of people they've had side effects. Most people are fine though so I said ok generally. I could also say mostly good.

Would you say the same about Penicillin?

The responsible thing is to get them then, shirley.

There's probably a decent sized list of reasons why people don't take the vaccine, I don't think they should all be called irresponsible for choosing not to take it.

Anti-vaxxers are not causing doubt in roughly a third of the population. A lot of people don't want the vaccine and they don't need anti-vaxxers to sway them.

Are we coercing parts of the world's population to take a new type of penicillin every 6 months for access to their lives? No.

I give up trying to leave the thread.

Given your view is I'm not going to say vaccines are good without adding anything else because for a lot of people they've had side effects. Why are people bothered about me giving views on different medicines or vaccines? I thought I was a conspiracy peddling anti vaxxer anyway so it's not like it really means anything is it? I don't really have views on a lot of medicines apart from knowing that if I've had some they've worked or not.

You are, I just wondered if you were hypocritical as well.

It goes back to picking and choosing outrage.

You mean if I got covid and it killed me the irony would be delicious? Seriously? Is that what you meant?

I'm not an anti-vaxxer though so you've got it wrong.

Imagine if someone posted in here something like "The irony of a vaccine side-effect being the reason you don't return one day is delicious" at someone. What would you think of that?

Are we in a vaccine cult now or something?

You're opposed to this vaccine because you think it's unsafe due to side effects but try and dilute that opinion by disingenuously saying it's 'ok' thinking it shields you from criticism of being anti-vaccine, occasionally you'll say you're just 'anti-mandate' but were seemingly opposed to the vaccine before ANY mandates in ANY country came in.

Any medicine you've ever taken in your life has a list of side effects as long as your arm and just like the vaccine they tend to impact a very few people in proportion to the numbers saved.

So if you take headache tablets. Viagra, Penicilin, SSRI's, or Beta blockers why is the vaccine any different.

This has probably already been done but to add to this, what about other, particularly childhood vaccines, in the UK? Or ones that people seem quite happy to have if it means they can have two weeks in Egypt?

Why is the Covid vaccine the one people are willing to die on a hill over?

It fits neatly in the conspiracy theory box, it's why they worry about the government spying on you through micro chips in your arm but don't have the same energy for things like net neutrailty.

I think it made lack of trust in the authorities and society in general come to the fore, thanks to social media and special circumstances. It was always there in a large percentage of the population, but it was mostly dormant or private. Now it's our there.

In addition to that, it was a good issue for the likes of Trump to exploit and make a public health crisis part of the never-ending US culture wars that Johnson seems so desperate to really get going here.

The speed of development surely has something to do with it. The covid vaccines were approved much more quickly than usual.

A concern which can be quite assuredly demystified, though. If anti-vaxxers spent as long putting their efforts in to researching why development of covid vaccines as they do "researching" horse paste alternatives and government conspiracy then they'd probably be quite comforted.

A degree of skepticism is no bad thing but the information is out there if people (not implying you) want to find it.

It's only out there in the same people, largely, who think a combination of the Earth is flat, 9/11 was an inside job, and lizards are running the world.

It's idiots winding idiots up on social media, it's self perpetuating.
