That's a lot of cases. Maybe they should ease up on testing to reduce the number.

At least hospitalizations are still only 20 percent up on previous 7 days. Deaths are hugely up, but from a low base.

This actually shouldn't be happening in the UK with all the vaccinations. What are unvaccinated

people doing, giving lap dances to random strangers?

What me and @Skidfingers McGonical do in the privacy of our own home is none of your business.

This is from The Telegraph live blog. Have to hope it turns out no worse than the variant we’ve already got.
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/global-health/science-and-disease/coronavirus-news-covid-quarantine-vaccine-cases-deaths-lockdown/

The so-called “delta plus” coronavirus variant has already infected at least 41 people in the UK, according to Public Health England.

Indian authorities today said the new variant, formally known as AY.1, was of concern and sweeping across the country.

It is believed the strain, first found in Nepal, evolved from the original delta variant which is now dominant in the UK.

It remains unknown if it is more dangerous than the original strain.

The Government said PHE had already put extra measures in place where the variant had been detected including "enhanced contact tracing, testing, and isolation".

Data from COG-UK, the organisation that conducts the genetic sequencing, indicates the variant has also been found in Wales and Scotland.

The rest of us should just sit tight and wait for these idiots to remove themselves from the gene pool.

Are we just a sickly population or something? Where does the UK stand in terms of overall health compared with the rest of Europe, for example?

In Europe only Malta and Turkey are fatter than the UK, and that might just be down to British tourists.

And Turkey isn’t even in Europe and all the fat Middle East forrins buy Maltese passports so they have access to the EU, so Britain first, yeah?

I hate seeing this lack of patriotism.

Heads of schools have been advised to prepare for home learning from September.

Surely it would negligent to not prepare for it, at least. Or was the inference that this will be the case?

They have contingency plans which have to be in place.

The unofficial line is now 'we're done' the link between infection and death is broken.

So, September 'should' be the first year that starts normally, unless something comes along to fuck that up.

Inference being that it's a very likely possibility based on current trends so we need to be ready to run with it. It's rife in the borough I work and we've had 2 classes with cases this week currently at home. Possibly the LEA being over cautious.

Guess it'll come down to hospitalisation and death data rather than cases by that point. Still shitty to think that might be the case though.

If cases are still high and schools are having to send bubbles home with a single case, as they are now. Then it makes sense to start with home learning as it would be less disruptive than the in and out nature of last year.

I've got everything crossed that we'll be in a position to just go in as normal safely.

The cases are the big thing in school as bubbles go home causing days of disruption, children out for 10 days or more, then getting them back in and settled before another case hits and on and on. I can see the argument for starting with home learning if the cases are still high, but it wouldn't be ideal.

It's all ifs and buts for the time being though. Just hope everyone can go back as "normal" as they can.

Yeah, we’re in agreement.

Its contingency planning for worst case scenario, I’m part of the DFE email chains and it’s just trying to mitigate against all outcomes.

We ‘should’ be fine by then, but if not the above applies.

The way I see it, is if the vaccine completely breaks the link between cases -------> hospitalisations then we won't have to do any of this ten day stuff anyway. It'll be like any other ailment gross kids pass among themselves.
