The problem is, unless we have herd immunity, a vaccine, drugs which minimise the seriousness of infection or the virus weakens as it mutates, the second we ease the lockdown, how on earth do we stop exactly the same levels happening again?

This is why they aim to keep the infection rate at 1 or close to that. Merkel said last week that at 1.1 the hospitals would be over run by October. At 1.2 by July, at 1.3 by Mid June (ish, can't remember exact numbers).

Found out my auntie has it, over a fortnight and nobody deemed it necessary, we were brought up together, like a sister to me. 60 years old and works in a Home where 6 have died.

Hope everything works out for youse, absolutely dreadful times.

Doctors Without Borders (MSF) warned on Wednesday it will run out of masks within three to four weeks, raising the prospect that it will have to halt operations, AFP reports.

Kenneth Lavelle, MSF’s deputy director of operations, said in a virtual press conference in Geneva, where the organisation is based, said the NGO would need roughly around a million masks a week for the next six months.

Otherwise, “we might be faced with taking even more difficult decisions about stopping activities”, said Lavelle.

Due to the phenomenal demand PPE as a result of the global coronavirus pandemic, the organisation is finding itself priced out of the market, he said.

We have stocks, globally, for three, maybe four weeks maximum.

The small quantities that remain will be distributed to our missions, but we have got virtually zero visibility on what stocks we will have in three to four weeks.

Our supply pipeline will be empty.

Read this was due to smokers having a lower level of a certain enzyme that may help the virus travel between cells. Seems like a short-term view of health, but hopefully a reversible impact if it does work (as long as, you know, you don't get addicted to nicotine).

Unsure about the use of patches though, do they even know it's the nicotine triggering the effect?  Maybe it's one of the other chemicals released by smoking tobacco.  Maybe smoking a joint would be even better.  Or a cigar, everyone drawing off a stogie on their daily exercise would be quite a sight.

Belgium's death rate per population seems pretty grim. What's gone wrong there?

Accurate reporting?

General public should be using bandannas or those snood like thingies until supply is not an issue.

If burkas are made mandatory for women, you have instantly cut the shortage in half.

Please let it be the joints, she's doing my head in about my excessive use during quarantine.

What else my supposed to be doing when I'm not at work?

I see Raab has today laid the groundwork for next week's excuse as to why they're not at 100,000 tests per day.  Apparently the demand is not there, so that's what it will be, they we're ready and available but not many people wanted them.

I think we should save them for NHS workers.

When I last went by the office (right by the local hospital) I was thinking whether the cleaners, porters and nurses who smoked were still getting tutted at by some of the more "Surrey/Sussex" locals. Hope not, buggers deserve the right to take a break on their own terms right now.

Sir Keir Starmer is a pro-masker.

https://news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-britons-should-wear-cloth-face-coverings-in-public-health-experts-tell-government-11977113

There is an "urgent need" for Britons to wear cloth face coverings in public places to fight the spread of coronavirus, a group of health experts has warned.

In an open letter to the government, more than 20 public health specialists and academics said the measure would be one of the "simplest, cheapest and most positive" ways to protect people from COVID-19.

It comes after Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer backed calls for the government to formally recommend people wear face masks on transport and in workplaces where social distancing is difficult.

Now that Parliament is back, they should scrap these press conferences.

The questions are absolutely fucking dire.

Children under 10 could come up with better questions that these cunt journalists.

I wonder if they'll stop doing them when Boris is back? That'd be handy.

Yeah that point was really hammered home today. Raab has had a relatively comfortable ride at those pressers, he wasn’t prepared for the scrutiny from todays’ PMQ’s.

People who recovered from original SARS still have antibodies nearly 20 years later, I've seen nothing to suggest that this new version will be anything different.

I've seen nothing to suggest that you have a clue what you are talking about. Your lack of self-awareness is fucking astonishing. You remind me of them Trump idiots protesting in the states. Selfish arrogant wankers who think they know it all.
