I suspect this is more down to coincidence than to science.

This is why they are testing now, to see if the science backs it. Interesting but I am sure many other such things are being investigated and tested to see if there is a link between them.

Correlation does not imply causation. But in the middle of a pandemic to ignore is surely foolish, hence the interest.

Absolutely right, no argument from me there. I'm not sure if it still happens but certainly everyone in my school had the bcg injection.

Dunno about the BCG but there’s loads of blokes on here that had at least six pricks in their younger days.

Sounds like you were the leader of the six pricks gang.

I really wonder what state people will be in by the end of this mentally and physically. It will take major adjustment if it carry on over the initial 3 months.

Normally people have so little time to actually truely switch off and think. I can see divorce numbers going through the roof, and people really struggling with things like depression and a general malaise with everything.

Trying to find some sort of routine will really be needed by alot of people and just constantly sitting up late eating shit and drinking won't be helping either. Adding in a natural supplement like Chamomile, Gingseng or St John's wort might help some people as they're all quite well known to lift peoples moods, add clarity of thought etc

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/314421#herbs-and-supplements

I'm not saying take them over actually going to the doctor. If you need help get it. Just it might help some people just being stuck inside for a few months and being actual natural supplements and not done weird chemical compound shit it's maybe worth a look. I know some people who found they helped and some they did nothing for

I'm probably an anomaly, but I've been in probably the most severe depressive episode of any I've ever had since around late October and I've gone the opposite way and seen an uptick in mood pretty much since the day they said all of my Uni work would be conducted online.

For all I still have a shit ton to do and financially this is all likely to be very tight for me as I'm self employed and as such really limited in what work I can do it's given me a bit of a pressure release of some kind.

That said, there are a lot of people joking about how isolation etc. is just daily life. In my case it really is how I'd prefer to be in general. I hate leaving the house unless I really have to, I actively avoid situations where I have to interact with any large number of people etc. and generally live a mostly solitary life as I find it way less stressful and easier to deal with. Socialising and generally being out and about is and always has been really hard work for me, it was easier when I was younger as alcohol and drugs overcame that on a weekend, but I can't be arsed with either of those these days.

Have you noticed that Donald Trump and Strontium Dog have the same number of letters in their names and have a similar spoken structure?

Both chat shit, deflect, lie and have egos bigger than the Pacific Ocean?

Id rather have SD in charge than Trump though.

I thought it was interesting in the video posted by the prime minister he did not mention this 25,000 daily testing target we have heard from government ministers throughout the crisis. There is a sense, I think, it is beginning to slip as they find it increasingly difficult to get the necessary test.

It is clear the government’s hope of attacking the virus rests not with a current coronavirus test, but with the separate proposed antibody test which will establish if people have immunity from the virus.

It is not up and running, it is still in the development stage, but the government has ordered 3.5m of those tests and the hope is that it will help ministers establish if people have built up an immunity to the virus and can be released from the lockdown.

That is which the government believes could provide way out of this crisis and that is which they are looking to mass test.

It doesn't get us out of the current situation or help to identify people who have coronavirus. So that test is of no use now but down the road the government believes that could be the exit strategy.

Remember when i was in school the myth about the BCG needle being as big as a knitting needle, don't know about that but it hurt like fuck and every one in school used to shit them selves about going for the BCG. All the urban myths around the time where about , some lad having to have his arm amputated after having a reaction to the BCG.

Except Italy and USA are not "hit hardest" when it comes to death rate, American is still lower than in many other countries. It looks like more of the "Italians are dying because they are old, warm people and lika di opera" theories based on unreliable figures.

Problems will likely rise again in some areas. Once the nicer weather starts I really can't see people staying at home unless forced to and this government obviously doesn't want to do that. Easier to do what they wanted with herd immunity and just blame the public for not stay in.

I think Italy started their lockdown on 7/3, Spain 14/3 and us 23/3.

Italy has only seen consistent, if small, reductions in deaths since 27/3.

Although Spain hasn’t seen any reductions in deaths (it is slightly flattening), they saw new cases flatten from 26/3.

We’re 10 days in now. You’d hope we’d start to see a flattening of new cases soon and then deaths a week to 10 days later.

There will have to be further, better implemented / adhered to lockdowns, to make sure we stay on a reducing pattern.

950 in Spain over the last 24 hours. 864 the day before.

Posted this before but it's a good resource for showing the break down of cases and deaths. You might not give a shit about the various regions of Spain but I think it gives reasonable indication of what could happen in the UK.

People talk about the appalling situation in Spain, but the truth is that there is an appalling situation in Madrid, and to a lesser extent in Catalunya. About 6m people live in Madrid (city and metropolitan population) and they have had about 4000 deaths. About 1.5-2m people live in Sevilla and there have been 55 deaths. Asturias 1m - deaths 69. Huelva 500k - deaths 4. Almeria 700k - 17. Etc.

The impact of using public transport, and especially the metro, is, obviously, crucial.

As bad as things have been in Spain the country is actually quite fortunate at the moment that it is relatively sparsely populated, and areas of the country (the south mainly) are slightly cut off due to lack of rail routes etc (same applies in Southern Italy). As shit and expensive as public transport is in the UK, you can still get a train or bus to almost anywhere. Is this still the case or have lots of routes been cut down/stopped?

I don't know what London is doing about the underground but there really needs to be (probably needed to be) a plan in place to ensure that they are only being used by essential workers (and not simply "advice"), and that there are sufficient trains. A lot of the pictures of the tube suggest that this isn't happening.

First caller on 5 Live phone-in about government’s handling of the pandemic. Wants to get behind them but felt they were not telling the truth at press briefings so couldn’t trust them. Then said she wanted to get behind them and was in fact behind them because she knew they faced difficulties. Presenter quick to enforce most people behind the government but wanted more clarity.

The narrative is being set. They haven’t fucked up or lied, just facing a difficult job and need to be clearer. Anyone thinking the public will hold them to account is kidding themselves.
