The humility of that doctor interviewed is really, really hard hitting.

That call hit harder than any of the press conferences have. We need people like this on TV because many aren't listening to the advice.

Almost one in four 25 to 34-year-olds are failing to follow the Government's most basic advice on slowing the spread of Covid-19, according to a poll.

A survey of 2,000 people in Britain exposed a significant divide in the approach of different generations to the pandemic.

Only 76 per cent of those aged 25 to 34 said they were washing their hands more frequently, in line with official advice, compared to 90 per cent of over 55s. The 25-34 age bracket also contained the highest proportion of any age group (7 per cent) saying they had yet to take any additional precautions at all.

The findings come after Boris Johnson ordered the closure of all pubs, bars, gyms and nightclubs, amid fears that both younger and older people were unwittingly spreading the virus while socialising....

That's a horrible final few paragraphs:

According to the report, successful temporary suppression now would lead to a larger epidemic later in the year "in the absence of vaccination, due to lesser build-up of herd immunity".

The major challenge with such rigorous suppression measures, say the scientists, is that because the virus starts spreading again once they're relaxed, they would need to be kept in place until a vaccine becomes available, which could be more than 18 months away.

In the chart above, they show that we could enter a cycle of "intermittent social distancing", responding to rises in cases, when the measures would need to be reintroduced.

The report says China and South Korea show that suppression is possible in the short term, but notes: "It remains to be seen whether it is possible long-term, and whether the social and economic costs of the interventions adopted thus far can be reduced."

A doctors' union in Russia accused authorities of disguising the extent of the country's coronavirus outbreak.

The head of the Alliance of Doctors trade union said in a video that officials were classifying coronavirus deaths as pneumonia deaths.

The video also alleged that doctors were being made to treat patients without protective gear, risking spreading the virus further. Hospital officials have strongly denied the claims and suggested that the union leader was trying to discredit the medical profession in Russia.

So far, Russian officials have said there are about 250 coronavirus infections and one death in the population of about 145 million.

Yeah I think we'll have a second period of isolation next winter.

We can buy some time over the summer maybe.

We won't have a vaccine but we should have tests that will show who has the antibodies and hopefully is immune and won't spread it if they take care with their hygiene. With the whole world working on it now we could end up with treatment methods, anti virals that could make a difference.

As that a&e doctor said, currently there is nothing they can do.
