Not many people will see this tweet.

But, it is with a heavy heart I must announce that my wife of 48 years, Susan, lost her battle against the deadly coronavirus last night. I’m devastated

Please everybody take this virus seriously, that’s all I ask.

Take care, everyone.

Grim as fuck.

Hmm here  on the isle of man , anyone arriving by boat or plane since Tuesday have been told they must go straight home and self isolate for two weeks.

Coppers have just arrested a bloke ' of no fixed abode' for said offence.

According to their Facebook media page

Shouting and blaming people right now isn't going to help anyone, there will be time enough for blaming later.

Right now we need the Chinese Government to be as honest and helpful as possible as we can learn from how they are dealing with this virus. They can help to save millions of lives right now, which is the most important thing to me.

Oh the bloody Chinese and the cover ups, what bunch of dodgy foreign bastards.

yet the professionals from the WHO have said the Chinese have been up front about numbers, pandemic specialists from the UK and USA who have been working over there since the SARS 1 crisis, they are saying the Chinese are being open about numbers.

cover up is currently coming from the leaders of <drum roll please> the good old USA and UK.

they are going to inflict more harm and damage on your countries than the Chinese.

the Chinese locked their cities down, which is why they can see a light at the end of the tunnel.

all the uk and us can see is the same as those in Italy and other places that didn’t fucking bother, and it’s a fucking big train of death.

This is the world we live in, scientists have been warning about global pandemics for 20 years, yet health services have been continually cut in the so called free world.

I don't know enough to pass judgement on the UK Government but I'm certain sure not the biggest fan of my own American government. They're largely good at taking peoples money, and spending it on killing people in far off foreign lands. I don't worship the ground the president walks on simply because he holds the title, and I would venture to say that there hasn't really been a president worth a shit in my lifetime. That doesn't change the facts that there were reports of a "mystery virus" in China as early as October. The Chinese government eventually downplayed those reports saying there was no instances of human to human transmission of said virus. I believe that happened in early January but it could've been in December, I don't have the records on hand, but I do know that it happened. They didn't lock down Wuhan until late January when the situation became undeniably bad and enough had leaked out that action was effectively forced upon them.

Having said that, I don't really understand your point of contention here. The Chinese government have been cunts for quite a while on plenty of issues, but that doesn't mean the US nor the UK government haven't also been cunts for quite a while on plenty of issues. The difference at hand is that the Chinese likely knew more about this particular and at one time potential worldwide issue (as it's worldwide now so the potential has been fulfilled) than they let on, and instead of reporting it truthfully attempted to cover it up. The alternative to that is that they were simply incompetent.

I don't understand how UK and USA can be blamed and yet have specialists from UK and USA verify the Chinese numbers? I'm pretty sure when it first emerged, the Chinese Govt stated there was no danger from this outbreak as it would not spread outside of Wuhan.

However I agree completely on pandemic warnings being ignored (although I'm not convinced that is to do with business and Government and more to do with medical policies) and I also agree completely on lockdowns being a very positive step (this is something the UK Govt has clearly listened to and is now applying, thank God).

I don’t think anyone really knew just how small or big this virus could get for quite a while and I still don’t think anyone really does now. Who knows if this will fade away in 6/12 weeks or it will continue and half the planet will die? One thing I can say is that it’s ok to criticise filthy markets in any climate because it’s unhygienic filth. It’s not just China even if this did stem from there. Another thing it is absolutely right to be able to do is criticise governments who through either negligence, ego, greed or false bravado have and will continue to cause many more deaths.

I once ate meat from a sheep’s head at a food stall on the Jemaa el-Fnaa (when in Rome and loads of locals were eating there) and spent the next 24 hours weeing liquid shit into a toilet bowl.

It’s easy to criticise the Chinese, but these things happen in lots of countries. Remember those dodgy hot dog carts that used to be stationed outside Anfield on match days.

EDIT: This has in no way dampened my enthusiasm to one day try fried ants.

I agree with this honestly. It's possible, albeit unlikely in my very slightly informed opinion, that this all resolves itself in a few months. The other issue though is that even the most docile of people get cabin fever. The lockdowns might well be what we need, even if I tend to disagree with them on principles of a free nation. I've been abiding as much as possible. I don't make any unnecessary trips anywhere. I can deal with it. People as a whole get restless though, and so I don't think this situation is sustainable beyond the limits that have been proposed. Maybe the governments can move the goalposts once or twice, maybe even three times. If we're all still locked in by next fall I suspect we'll have just as much to worry about from our fellow citizens, regardless of what country you live in at the time, as we do from any virus.

Just one of such issues is of course the percentage of morally bankrupt, revolting cunts who walk among us. Isolating the elderly does sadly potentially leave them more vulnerable to scammers, thieves and threats. Horrible to say, but it happens and will be going on. In small numbers, but no consolation to anyone it happens to.

Checking in daily, keeping a close eye on people and making sure they know to phone the second they need anything is the order of the day here. Just a collective effort to get people through it in our own networks and communities, by those of us who always knew Thatcher’s “There is no such thing as society” was hateful bullshit.

IF it’s been 100% confirmed that MERS, SARS, Covoid-19 etc originated from these markets, then something really should be done about it.

We changed habits with BSE, China should be forced to do the same.

Start with getting Trip Advisor out there and give them a cleanliness rating.

It's not the practice, it's the reporting the situation. Eat whatever you want, as has been mentioned, sometimes that's the only thing someone can afford to eat. Plenty of offal is good for you for example. I can't comment on Pangolin or Bat as I've never researched the nutritional content of them but I suspect they've been eating those animals in that area for years. I'm not even sure I really believe that was what caused this. That's not the issue though, the issue is once it's been documented it needs to be reported truthfully. Rather than trying to make a certain regime look good.

Sometimes it's a minor issue as you reported. I've drank some water in Mexico that was the best laxative I ever had, but I've also drank water in Mexico and was fine. Largely in those situations it's because the contents were foreign to your body rather than them being genuinely unhealthful. You ingest a small dose, you have as relatively minor problem, and your body can be accepting of that the next time.

I agree with that whole heartily. From my experience as a Californian however, it's the older people that tend to ignore the lockdown. Most of us around my age (I'm 30) are doing our best. Sure I've met up with a friend or two for a workout or a bevy or both, but we're pretty vigilant about this. Our parents are the ones running about town pissed off that they've got at least 30 days of their endgame stuck with nothing to do.

Pretty sure I've got the evil lurgy

High temperature, aches & pains, sore throat, feel like I'm at altitude with shortness of breath, fatigue

Fortunately pretty mild at the moment

Only been out doing necessary food shop over the last week so fuck knows where I got it from... fucking Lidl.

Agreed mate. Having said that, what I’m seeing in my own network is by definition it’s those 70+ who retain good health and mobility behaving like that. For those over 70 who are necessarily far more sedantry, coping with illnesses and/or frail, the isolation will be leaving them more vulnerable.

I'm wiping my keyboard and screen even reading this !

I've had a bit of a shitty cold all week, but it's been doing the rounds in my family for a while.  None of the dreaded symptoms.

Get well soon mate.

My father is 79 (yes I was born when he was 50) but spry as fuck and absolutely pissed they shut his work down where he bartends. I've explained to him that it's for his own interest, it took the full order for him to stay inside, and he's absolutely loathing every second of it. He only just quit the biffs 2 years ago. He's been a lifelong boozer, although no liver issues as far as we know. The main issue is his mother is 100. She's currently hospitaliized unrelated to COVID-19 but just that shes in there wants him to go see her, yet he can't, for both of their sakes.

How old are you? Get well soon.

That's the problem with grocery shopping. There's no way you can do any social distancing.

It may get to a point where they have to close supermarkets at this rate and food is rationed to the extent where it's given out/delivered.
