Had an email from the CEO at work this morning, all pretty normal stuff until they then started talking about staff sickness.

If you self isolate for 14 days you'll get SSP but it won't be recorded as sickness on you HR record.

If you test positie you have to self isolate for 14 days, you'll get SSP but it WILL be recorded as sickness.

Where's the fairness in that?

fucking arseholes, anyone (especially in social/medical care services) who needs to take leave should on government guaranteed full pay award.

How are parents working from home supposed to make sure their children are home schooled when grandparents cannot get involved.

Hungarian plan is to group kids in small groups of 3-4 and remote learn in one of their houses. Idea being that you just need one computer, one internet connection and one parent for each group

Orbán has rolled out the first phase of his economic plan

All loans and debt repayment for both individuals and businesses to be suspended for the rest of the year with a cap on interest rates - banks have agreed to it

Targeted tax relief including payroll tax for affected industries - hospitality, tourism etc

Special measures for self-employed such as taxi drivers where flat rate tax is suspended

It’s now illegal for landlords to terminate rent contracts and also to increase rents for the foreseeable

The prime minister stressed that the global coronavirus epidemic is a threat not only to people’s health – “though that is the most important and number one priority” – but also to jobs; it also jeopardizes jobs.

The decisions adopted at the cabinet meeting on Wednesday are to protect jobs because “we have learnt in the past ten years that if there are jobs there is everything,” he said.

It's blatantly obvious that there are more cases than what's been reported. Using Northern Ireland as an example, there are no test sites there so the amount of people getting tested is minuscule.

The UK government are a fucking disgrace but we all knew that anyway.

How is yer da going with it all? Hope he's sound.

To anyone in one of the at-risk categories/who has decided not to risk going out at all for their own reasons, or has family/friends in one of those positions.

There's an excellent service I've been put onto in the past via the hospital, which provides both live and on-demand video exercise classes staffed by physiotherapists and personal trainers. It was mainly created for people with chronic illness, but one of it's selling points is it can be tailored to each person's individual needs, from the most sedentary and unwell up to those with decent fitness levels.

Anyway, during the Coronavirus outbreak they're giving 2 months free access to everyone; new or existing members.

https://www.beamfeelgood.com/howitswork

Code is BEAM-STAY-WELL to get the 2 months free.

Might be of no interest, but could be a small lifeline to those who are cooped up at home feeling low, just wanting to get in a bit of activity and to be guided through it by someone who does it for a living.

Any issues getting signed up, give me a shout on here or via PM.

Cheers Liz, me and the missus have been trying to get out on the bike for an hour each day, i go early doors as its minimal people out, she went at 11 today, phoned me at 12, she'd had collision with some daft auld woman who was on the cycling path and did a dither either side and failed to actually achieve anything either way after me missus had shouted ahead to her.

Called me, i said i'd get down to pick her up, she decides to try and carry on riding a bit whilst I'm on the way, then due to one handed braking (suspect wrist sprain or fracture) - rides into a fucking lamp post giving herself a black eye and cut cheek.

got to drop her at the drs later, then probably take here for an x ray somewhere, and back to the quack tomorrow depending on results.

whilst trying to stay as clear of people as possible.

From Guardian :

The World Health Organization has said the coronavirus reached a peak in China around late February. Zhong Nanshan, a senior government adviser who helped detect and defeat SARS in 2003, said it “could be over by June” if other countries take the required action.

More from same update :

Though they remain wary of the risks of “importing” cases from overseas, they say China should be capable of eliminating Covid-19 in the same way it eliminated Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in 2003. SARS was eventually contained after the government imposed stringent screening and quarantine measures.

“For me, a second outbreak (of coronavirus), a domestic outbreak in China, wouldn’t be a great concern,” said Cao Wei, deputy director of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Peking Union Medical College Hospital.

She told a briefing on Monday that while China needed another month to make a final judgment, the existing prevention and control measures should be enough to bring the epidemic to an end domestically.

If we can stop being so arrogant and try to learn whatever lessons possible from them we might be able to get this sorted out over the next few months for the most part.

Paracetamol over Ibuprofen if you can folks, the latter has been linked to exacerbating symptoms

Sold out in all local pharmacies with no idea of when restocking is due. The missus has had to place an order online to get some and I pick it up on the other side of town tomorrow. Ridiculous thing is that online ordering only comes in amounts that are more than we need so planning to drop some off with neighbours when we get it

LONDON (Reuters) - The British government has agreed emergency measures with the energy industry to ensure vulnerable households remain supplied with power during the disruption caused by the novel coronavirus, it said on Thursday.

From Thursday onwards, customers with pre-payment meters who are unable to add credit can approach their suppliers to discuss other options to maintain power. That has the potential to benefit over 4 million households.

Disconnection of credit meters will be completely suspended, while energy customers in financial distress can also ask their suppliers for debt repayments and bill payments to be reassessed, reduced or paused, the government said.

The agreement has been signed by all UK domestic energy suppliers and will come into force immediately.

Britain’s biggest energy suppliers, including Centrica’s (CNA.L) British Gas, SSE (SSE.L), EDF’s (EDF.PA) EDF Energy, Iberdrola’s (IBE.MC) Scottish Power, control around 70% of the retail energy market.

There are also around 50 smaller suppliers, including Bulb and Octopus Energy.

“Today those most in need can rest assured that a secure supply of energy will continue to flow into their homes during this difficult time,” UK Secretary of State for Business and Energy Alok Sharma said.

On Wednesday Britain’s National Grid (NG.L) said it had plans in place to keep the lights on throughout the coronavirus outbreak as more people than usual remain at home.

The chief executive of Energy Networks Association, David Smith, said Britain’s electricity and gas network is reliable, and more than 36,000 employees are working to continue to provide a safe and reliable supply of energy.

SARS also originated in China. It's due to all the weird shit they eat over there like cats, dogs, bats etc. Somethings are just not meant to be eaten no matter how nice they might taste. Fucking weirdos.

Good news.

There are plans to use meter readers to shop and make pharmacy visits for the vulnerable.

There was an article about 20 years ago from a reporter visiting a market in China somewhere, he told of the various animals on offer for consumption which was gross, pretty much anything that moved, plus what I've been told by people who have visited the place.

Its common knowledge that their eating habits leave a lot to be desired, this is true throughout the far East, a mate of mine who lives in Thailand said he was eating Ducks beaks for fuck sake, there is no need to eat certain things, it's gross and unethical, unless you might be in survival mode.

FB, I agree.

Fantastic, at a time when the company network's going to be stretched to its limits because most people will be working from home, some stupid, self-important bitch from 'Employee Engagement' has emailed everyone in every UK division to propose a game of Email Bingo to 'keep everyone's spirits up'. Hopefully it's a test and anyone who wants to play will get binned.

Similar for us. We’ve got IT telling us to save the network by limiting the usage of video as much as possible and HR telling us to use video as much as possible to keep home workers’ spirits up

Just been chatting to my mate in Newport to see if he's OK as he has COPD and Asthma. He's been on normal holiday for the last fortnight but say he is off back to work on Monday. He's still going out and about anyway for Band Practice etc because in his opinion it's just a nasty flu. The mind boggles.
