Eighties Football

The whole Match Of The 80s series is on Youtube. Each episode has been posted in 4 parts so just follow the links at the end of each part. The series was first shown on the BBC in the 1990s and only went up to the 1985/86 season (and included that summer's World Cup) because the BBC only had the TV rights until 1986. There was a 1970s version presented by Dennis Waterman (Terry McCann off Minder), the 1980s edition was presented by Danny Baker, and they got Mark & Lard (Radio One DJs) to do the 1990s edition. All good if you want a quick-ish catch-up on what the game was like in England.

Apart from the performance, what always struck me about that game was the position of the main TV camera. It looks like it's in line with the penalty area not the halfway line. Strangely, despite the stand not changing at all since long before then, that camera now sits overlooking halfway.

I still have 3 VHS cassettes (keep meaning to get them transferred to digital format) and one of them is called 'Six of the best from the 80's' and it has that Forest game on it.

I was on guard duty with a loaded SLR, this fat Arsenal fan and a radio.
