It was about a fortnight later when I found out by reading about it on Shoot. Was absolutely gutted.

I remember the Independente game being live on itv at about 3am on a Sunday morning .

I stayed up to watch but fell asleep just before K.O and them woke up as they were picking up the cup ....

Then we were robbed last time although Rafa didn't help by picking Morientes instead of Crouch who'd just scored twice in the semi .

Not a cup with happy memories

Monterrey took their two best players off towards the end and that changed it in our favour. Once Pabon went off I fancied us to nick it because he was giving us hell down the right. That Pizarro was winning loads for them as well, I just checked and he came off in the 90th. I thought it was a bit sooner than that. With them two off we would have won in extra-time but thankfully we got the late one and didn't have to fuck about for another half an hour.

I am really not confident about Saturday. Some bookies have us 1/2 to win and I honestly think thats ridiculous. This is like an actual world cup final for these other teams and as has been said, we treated it more like a glorified friendly at first despite the strong starting 11.

Play like that against Flamengo and we won't be winning it. Go full strength, get Trent and Robertson pressing forward and don't rise to the inevitable shithouse tactics. We will miss Fabinho in this badly.

Rushed this one out because tomorrow is round up day and that takes all day to do, especially with some midweek cup games to include.

Doesn't read like a rush job. Fair report - I thought Keita was impressive going forward and Lallana worked hard. Shaq & Origi were a disappointment - even though Div did almost provide another assist with a "disguised pass" like he did against Watford.  We bossed the game once Sadio & Trent came on - a few of their players were suffering with cramp before the end. Sublime pass from TAA to Bobby for the goal, which gets better every time I re-see it.

Place I worked for had our Xmas Do as an overnighter in the Chain Bridge Hotel in Llangollen on the Saturday night and we got snowed in on the Sunday morning with no heat or water , so got home in the afternoon unwashed and unfed just in time to watch the highlights. Not the greatest day of my life.

I'm over there now and their fans seem to outnumber us 10-1. The stadium for the Monterrey game was all red but most of them were just there for Salah and were silent except when the ball went anywhere near Mo.

Our lot seem to be dotted around all over the ground while the Mexicans only had about 200 but were seated together and made a right din. Fucking crowd even did the Mexican fucking wave.

I'm praying we win because it's gonna be tough hanging around the hotel here for the next couple of days in the company of thousands of Brazilians.

Keep your wits about you.  Turned nasty with the San Paulo fans even though they won.
