Plenty of people have questioned why the need to spend the time. effort and billion and billions buying water/electric/trains etc for potentially little gain when taxing utility companies higher would have been far easier and raise just as much revenue. In my opinion they are missing the point, nationalisation was critical to Corbyns legacy, he would have been the man that enabled future labour opposition to bring down the tories, with the help of the unions, through mass industrial action. Just like the 70's.

The point of nationalising utilities (including high-speed broadband) and railways is to get them to actually work for the people who depend on them, not just the shareholders.

As an outsider looking on, I'm wondering if those of you who are there in the thick of things can answer this question - how soon do you think it's possible to reverse Brexit?

What I mean is, now that it's pretty clear it's going to happen, how long will it be before Labour (presumably) feels comfortable labeling it a disaster (which it's obviously going to be) and calling for a referendum to return to the EU fold? Are we talking about 2 years in the wilderness? 5? 10?

Or is it going to be one of those where even if it's a complete disaster for the economy and the people, no one will truly feel it's a winning political strategy to call for a reversal of the Brexit vote for a generation?

The thing is, it will be an economic disaster, but I reckon the Government and their media will successfully deflect blame on everything but their own Brexit policy - blame the forrins, blame the immigrunts, blame the leftie traitors...

It's going to get very fucking ugly.

Because Donald Trump respects women and there's nothing like a large Twitter following to win an election.  Obviously.

I've got scant evidence for that - stuff like the opinions of a vox pop of Tory voters in Surrey a few years ago, who all supported those sort of policies and the unanimous feedback from people who went out campaigning, who all say that it was "I don't like Corbyn" and "Get Brexit done" that cost Labour.  But however unscientific and anecdotal that evidence is, it's better than the absolute nothing that says (for example) working class voters in northern England and Scotland hated the idea of more rights for workers.

If you've got any surveys or evidence that the manifesto (other than Brexit) was unpopular, then please share it.

Jess Phillips seems very confident in her support from the man in the street. Well, I've met the man in the street and he thinks she's a cunt.

Yep.

I don't. Just commenting on the interesting allies the anti-Phillips mob have.

Er.... right...

Do you count Yaxley-Lennon as an ally because he's in the anti-Corbyn mob with you?

Well I would suggest that the evidence is that whenever Labour stood on a socialist manifesto in the last 40 odd years it got beat. I do concede that Corbyns unpopularity and shite Brexit policy does blur out feelings on socialism a bit.

And that was more important than say, decreasing VAT, mentioned in the Labour manifesto as a tax on the poor and got no more than a pledge to not increase it?
