Got to smile at all the "he won't win the working man's vote back". It's like these people haven't noticed who won the election in December.

Being on the leave campaign and then delivering Brexit give him a significant advantage. Starmer represents the polar opposite.

Have they changed the Labour logo from red to grey yet?

A rather uninspiring new leader. Brexit is an issue that will polarise the country for years to come. I'd be very surprised if the leave voters who left Labour will come back to a party led by an ardent remainder. And I don't think that Starmer has the character, appeal or charm to win them back either.

Sadly I agree.

I'll be voting Green henceforth, anyway.  The traditional left/right spectrum is broken beyond repair.

I’m not convinced he’s the right man to win Labour the next election. Two electability issues:

- He was and is still seen as an ultra remainer. Could he be the man to win back those Workington Men votes?

- He’s a member of Labour Friends of Palestine, and that could prove problematic come election time.

Time will tell, but I’m not convinced.

There's another tactic the right could use here now, and that's boosting Galloway and his party to split a future left-wing election vote. If they do and they get enough of the media to sign up to that Labour are definitely in serious trouble.

But exposing more people to the ideas of Galloway/Workers Party which are anti-imperialist and way more left wing in general, could be seen as too much of a threat to the establishment so that might not happen.

How though? He will be painted as Pro EU Sir Keir of Brussels. The man that wanted to ignore the referendum result. I don't see how he will win back any of the leave voting seats Labour lost vs the man that delivered Brexit.

Which pro-Leave candidate should have been chosen?

Fucking hell stop going on about Galloway will you or at least take it to his own thread. He’s a busted flush and has been for years. He got 1.4% of the vote share where he stood in 2019 and less than 500 votes.

He’s never going to split Labour’s vote any more than the Socialist party or Left unity or dozens of other tiny parties do.

There isn’t one. And the Labour membership and Voters - both in 2017 and 2019 - are overwhelmingly remain voters. First priority is to keep them and then build in other areas.

Yeah and if the media boost him and his party gets 1-2% nationally that could fuck Labour badly.

We'll see anyway. I'm not predicting anything just think it could be a problem. I did forget about the other thread and will post there in future like I said a while ago (I totally forgot that until you just mentioned it, sorry), but I still think this could be relevant to Starmer and Labour over the coming years, so maybe worth a mention at least.

There's nothing relevant about Galloway.

There might be when it comes to voters in the next election if it's close-run. He doesn't need a lot to damage Labour if that happens.

Anyway I'll get out of the thread before Sugar Ape burns my local 5G mast down or eggs my windows.

If Starmer allows McTernon type cunts to influence the party and move it too far to the right people that won't put up with this will vote Green, not for Galloway.

I'll vote for the party which wants to introduce proportional representation.

He supports electoral reform

Really happy he's won

Think he's decent, honest and clever and will hold the cunt Johnston to account in a big way

As i said earlier I don't think there were any electable choices. Nandy and RLB would have at least had something in common with working class voters, whereas Starmer doesn't appear to have anything that would make Johnson voters move back to Labour that I can see?

I hope he proves me wrong and I will continue as a Labour member and voter unless he gives me good reason not to.

I reckon a healthy proportion of those voters who swung behind Johnson purely for Brexit would vote for Starmer next time. The phrase that kept popping up in leave-leaning Labour heartlands was "lending their vote".

Why?  What's he got that's attractive to those voters?

I really hope he's been hiding his light under a bushel these years as I've seen nothing from him which would suggest he's a leader of any kind.

On the plus side though that should hopefully mean the likes of Berger, Austin , Ryan , Leslie, Smith , Gapes and co wouldn’t want to return....

Unless it was all agenda driven that they left but I know they’re not that types of people they’re honourable politicians .....

RLB couldn’t even beat Starmer, how’d she win an election though?
