The New Leader of the Labour Party

Leadership husting just finished. Baily and Nandy both grew into it, I thought Starmer was poor and almost seemed frighten, very unnatural.

Philips seemed like she was going to start crying every time she spoke.

Thornberry came across the best, lots of rousing and passion.

Each candidate only had 40 seconds to answer each question and too be honest not much learnt.

Deputy hustings just finished.

Raynor was message repeating throughout but got better.

Butler was the best by a long way, really natural performer and good policies.

Burgen hit all the right "hard" left policy notes and came across better than I expected.

Murray was surprisingly good in relation to knowing his "brief" and thus was impressive.

Dr Rosenna had passion and believe and drive but was a bit all over the place. Seemed inexperienced.

Lot better than the leadership hustings.

Surely I don't have to explain to you all of this?

Pol Pot went to a Catholic Primary School... are you going to blame him on the See of Rome?

Did you actually read what I put? I said Hitlers actions were nothing to do with him being a roman catholic. I was pointing out to stig after he tried to blame the holocaust on protestants, that it was nothing to do with them or any other church for that matter. Go read it again. No need to apologise, but it would be gentlemanly, I know I would.

Long Bailey has better arguments, more confident delivery, more personality, a better socialist analysis of politics, doesn’t have a campaign team largely comprised of utter balloons. I don’t buy that she’s unelectable

I’m still to see the appeal of Keir. He’s bland, uninspiring, spouting hypocritical platitudes about unity, hiring Progress and healthcare lobbyists to work his campaign. Not to mention people’s vote, Owen smith etc etc. Say whatever you want about his “leftist credentials”, that speaks more to me about where he is.

Nah I’m not having him. That’s not my politics.

If that’s the way people think labour will win and he becomes leader, absolutely fine, I won’t complain. I just won’t be out there actively supporting and campaigning for them, will direct my energy elsewhere.

I was there today. The only time I felt in any way inspired to react was when the BoD  'pledges' were unaimously accepted as being adoptable. This is a right wing, almost unanimously Tory, bunch of religious fanatics representing a minority of a minority, demanding that Labour Party policy is dictated by their devotion to a Zionist apartheid state that specialiises in murdering children. The level of acquiesence was fucking painful. The Friends of Palestine were outside the halll, handing out leaflets in a peaceful and dignified manner and it hurt to know that Israel rather than Palestine was the consideration with our potential leaders.

Long Bailey was the msot impressive.

Thornberry was fairly witty.

Starmer was boringly soliid.

Nandy was, well, what do you expect from Wigan?

Phillips was basically the limited, uninspiring, self centered, hateful clown we always thought she was.    And they said she was just a big pair of tits.

They couldn't get every single leader and deputy leader candidate to fall in line and now they're whining. Good that Burgon and Butler did this, could be hugely important over time to help expose how utterly stupid their demands are if they stick with it :

Looks like their problem is that nothing ever seems to be enough. Not even getting Corbyn out, they had to get the 10 demands going for anyone else after him too, and eventually it could prove to be the thing that fucks them over.

The fact that we're even in this situation is really hard to believe and the media have a big responsibility for this mess. Imagine an equivalent Muslim group doing this to the Tories, there'd be fucking chaos.

Trying to satisfy those who will never be satisfied is pointless.

4th of fucking April this shit goes on until. I'm already bored of it.

Am just going to guess that Labour are finished for the time being as a socialist left wing party and then if I'm proven wrong later on, fair enough.

Things not to talk about during campaign :

Smear campaigns,

Blairites,

Israel,

Israeli Embassy, LFI, JLM, The Lobby from Al Jazeera,

Voting reform,

Open selection,

Rigged BBC,

Corrupt UK intel agencies,

NATO,

EU corruption,

Western backed coups,

and so on.

Corbyn didn't turn out to be left wing enough (in actions. he backed down too much, didn't do enough to democratise party), so no idea how they're all of a sudden going to solve things now.

You can't pick a fight with him and win.  You will end up walking away.

He will be unscathed, you will look like an idiot for starting it and not winning.

That's his charm for me.  He won't get rattled, he knows his stuff, he's a brick wall.

Don't forget, the next election isn't about turning people into socialists, it's about turning weak Tories and LD's into Labour voters.  You don't do that by scaring them.

If you say so mate. Like I said, if he gets elected as leader I’m not going to complain; but who knows what state the country/planet will be in this time next year, let alone in five years time?

He may well be the guy, but from a personal perspective I’m just not feeling him.

You are probably spot on but I still can't warm to him. Comes across as very self-serving.

Starmer gets USDAW , which looked like the only available top 5 union for the lesser lights , so Extremely Annoying Phillips and San from the Fat Slags now need 33 CLP's or a mix of CLP's and a few smaller unions. May be a 3 horse-race pretty soon.

Rumblings GMB may not back Nandy now. She could face a struggle to get on as well if that’s true.

Whoever it is, it's going to need to be a two term appointment as unless there's some sort of national breakdown like a recession, I don't see Labour overturning the Tory majority in five years. If the Tories do win the next GE, another Labour leadership battle would be bad for the party.

The need to get the right leader this time is absolutely crucial.

Apparently that was enough to get him onto the ballot.

Yes, Barry, I believe any of the top 5 unions reach the full level on their own.

The original soundings at the weekend were that Starmer had 2 in his pocket, RLB one , Nandy was expected to get GMB & USDAW were the only one that was unresolved and the last real hope for Thornberry / Phillips.

Obviously Sugar Ape's post re GMB potentially ditching Nandy , and USDAW going to Starmer could potentially leave it as a 2-horse race ( Assuming GMB of course don't go for Thornberry or Phillips )
