I think we’re still a long, long way off that. The newspaper’s websites still have a huge presence online and TV news dominates even more.

The political correspondents for TV channels on social media had as much of an impact as anything during the election though. Kuenssberg, Peston etc spreading lies that had no truth to them that were influencing people before they could be debunked. I think we're already there personally.

It’s still the mainstream media though, isn’t it? Twitter is an echo chamber anyway and the Russians have got Facebook sewn up. The vast, vast majority of people are directly or indirectly still having their opinions shaped by the same newspapers and TV channels as they always have.

Spot on. We need alternative news outlets to tell

us what really happened.

Not so much alternative news as alternate reality.

The question is, are these people genuinely deranged, or are they just grifters fearing the loss of revenue and status that will come when the hard left are slung out.

If you think the left of the Labour Party are hard left you're going to love Galloway's new party if it gets going.

Good last paragraph in that article too :

Quote

However, these glaring truths have been almost completely ignored by the liberal commentariat in favour of a narrative that explicitly frames the left as Labour’s problem, and a return to centrism as its only solution. And this is a narrative that’s reverberating across the Atlantic as liberals take aim at the Bernie Sanders campaign, citing Corbyn’s defeat as ‘proof’ that progressive policies can’t win over voters. It’s the product of an unprecedented and relentless war on truth waged in concert with the hard right and reinforced by elements of the deep state. Its principle aim is to equate socialism with extremism (and even racism) in a form of double speak that would have made George Orwell gulp. As George Monbiot recently put it, “the oligarchs have discovered the formula for persuading the poor to vote for the interests of the very rich. And that formula includes massive lying and cheating on an unprecedented scale”.

And I thought this was great from The Canary recently (I don't read it regularly or follow them I don't think, I sometimes see articles tweeted though and follow Mendoza their editor) : https://www.thecanary.co/uk/analysis/2020/01/12/how-government-funded-researchers-helped-turn-labours-election-hopes-into-a-smear/

That's really not the case. There are loads of other Labour-supporting outlets who slag liberals off too, I obviously disagree with them, but they're not run by lunatics.

Not a new party by George Galloway.

What a box fresh and utterly terrifying for the establishment endeavour THAT will be.

As long as he's being genuine and it gains enough members it could bother them quite a bit, definitely. When it comes to ripping into the western war machine and propaganda there's no Labour leader that's going to do the same. He seems to have no fear in calling out the antisemitism smear campaign which no Labour leader has the courage to do, he supports Palestine and calls out Israel, Saudi and other govs like nobody in the Labour Party has the courage to either (because they'll be branded antisemite in the first case for example and they won't deal with the smears properly.) And one of his main focuses is class politics which won't be happening if Starmer gets in.

I can see how with the right campaigning that's going to attract a lot of people on the left sick of Labour at the moment. I'm not saying it's the best solution just that it might happen. If RLB wins things might be ok when it comes to retaining the left properly, if she doesn't Galloway's party could draw off a lot of their left wing voters if he does it well enough.

But yeah, I'm sure with it being Galloway there's all types of shit that could go wrong and he's going to be called an antisemite, puppet of Russia because of his work with RT and so on, along with loads of stuff from his past being dragged up. It'll be a total shitstorm but that might be needed if Labour can't sort things out well enough.

He could be for the left what Farage is for the right if he goes about it properly. I don't think they're going to stand any election chances but Farage never did either and it hasn't stopped him having an effect for years on end.

Yes. As long as we ignore what Galloway is, what he does, what he did, what he’s likely to do it’s very likely the establishment will be terrified by the splitting of the Labour vote.

I was joking really.

It was a pretty poorly written opinion piece. One or two threads worth exploring about how Johnson’s right wing populism was copying ideas from Corbyn’s left wing populism. But didn’t go into any real analysis and was all over the place.

I’m not confident that Starmer is electable in the current political climate in the UK for the following reasons; He’s an ardent remainer, he resides in London, he’s a member of Labour Friends of Palestine.

Brexit is done. Boris lives in London yet handed Corbyn his arse in the Northern seats even though he hid away for most of the campaign. The next GE is 5 years away. What are you wittering about?

An ardent remainer in power can try and reverse brexit can't they? 5 years down the line? Plus being a member of Labour Friends of Palestine means that he will get lies peddled about him daily accusing him of all sorts.

Brexit is nowhere near done. Didn’t your #FBPE lot keep bleating on and on during, the election campaign that Tories’ “Get Brexit Done!” slogan was a sham?

Once again, I'm not #FBPE. I'm not sure why you keep repeating this, it's pretty weird. As for Brexit not being done, well I think we are entering the transition period in 15 days and leaving December this year, all within the first year of the 5 Corbyn and his amateurish mates handed to the Tories. It's about as done as can be.

So, unlike your player observations on the FF can you provide a bit more insight than "he's a remainer". It's just nonsense when the country will have moved on to the next crisis by the time the next election rolls round.

Honestly, this Friends of Palestine thing isn't the reason Corbyn lost the election, he was seen as a shit leader. As for reversing Brexit, you'd have to see where the country is 3/4 years into a life outside the EU project, which could see jobs being lost left, right and centre, before deciding what the strategy would be for the next election. As far as I'm aware not one person apart from Philips has mentioned rejoining being an option.
