If we're going by number of votes, then since 2001, the only Labour leader to win more votes than Corbyn in 2019 was er, Corbyn in 2017.

Kinnock 1992: 11.6 million

Blair 1997: 13.5 million

Blair 2001: 10.7 million

Blair 2005: 9.6 million

Brown 2010: 8.6 million

Milliband 2015: 9.3 million

Corbyn 2017: 12.9 million

Corbyn 2019: 10.3 million

Counting number of votes is all a bit “we won the passing” after a drubbing.

Obviously of huge significance if we had Proportional Representation.

We don’t though, and every party entered this election and campaigned for it fully aware of that fact, as per.

Also, the population of the UK since, say, 2005 has grown by approx 7.5 million. It’s a useless stat.

The pattern of Blair's results does point towards the utter stupidity of trying to replicate it though.

Anyway, no huge fan of Starmer but he'd be infinitely preferable to RLB. If Labour really are worried about the fucking tedious tokenism of having a woman as leader then really have lost the fucking plot.

This is a more useful guide to choosing the next leader:

Callaghan 1979 - Lost

Foot 1983 - Lost

Kinnock 1987 - Lost

Kinnock 1992 - Lost

Blair 1997 - Won

Blair 2001 - Won

Blair 2005 - Won

Brown 2010 - Lost

Miliband 2015 - Lost

Corbyn 2017 - Lost

Corbyn 2019 - Lost

I think you're right, but it's also why personality plays such a big part. I've never understood what people like in Johnson, I can't abide him, but it seems he has some type of magnetic personality that certain people are drawn to. The press have a love in with him. The voters vote for him. And not just this election, he convinced labour voters to vote for him twice as London mayor and he's clearly a buffoon to even his biggest fans.

He's got the bumbling unkempt oaf act (and it is an act) down to a tee. He portrays himself as harmless runt of the litter who some people cant help but feel sorry for. It appealed to a lot of people, especially women.

Fair enough, soon as your lot can reanimate Lloyd George's corpse, you'll be in with a shot.

I was merely contesting the claim that going from 7.4% to 11.6%, the biggest increase of any party in the election, constitutes a disaster.

The overall outcome was a disaster, but I suppose at least there's something to build on. You still got nowhere near Kennedy and Clegg's votes in 2005/ 10 though.

Think more women voted for Lab than men did, mate

They can spot a wrong 'un when they see one
