If we're going by number of votes, then since 2001, the only Labour leader to win more votes than Corbyn in 2019 was er, Corbyn in 2017.

 

Kinnock 1992: 11.6 million

Blair 1997: 13.5 million

Blair 2001: 10.7 million

Blair 2005: 9.6 million

Brown 2010: 8.6 million

Milliband 2015: 9.3 million

Corbyn 2017: 12.9 million

Corbyn 2019: 10.3 million

Also, the population of the UK since, say, 2005 has grown by approx 7.5 million. It’s a useless stat.

The pattern of Blair's results does point towards the utter stupidity of trying to replicate it though.

 

Anyway, no huge fan of Starmer but he'd be infinitely preferable to RLB. If Labour really are worried about the fucking tedious tokenism of having a woman as leader then really have lost the fucking plot.

The overall outcome was a disaster, but I suppose at least there's something to build on. You still got nowhere near Kennedy and Clegg's votes in 2005/ 10 though.
